Based on Sark's comment, it seems more likely that Whittington isn't cleared. He said he's "making progress" twice and "if" he's cleared to play, which don't seem very definitive.
Seemed like Sark thought he would play at the presser. Does he have to be on the depth chart to play? Can he travel with the team?
Like winning, a successful ending to a quest can be hard. Just ask Clark Griswold. He might still be on the quest to find Marty Moose.
Not sure if this is good or not, because part of me would rather him not risk re-injuring it in a season that's fully in the crapper anyway. I'd rather him come back next having had the next time to let everything heal. Can't blame him for wanting to be out there if they'll let him, though.
You would think on something like that it's a cleared or not cleared kind of deal, not he can play, but just be careful.
I'd rather see him play in Saturday's game that a stupid media show, but I guess that's better than nothing.
The poor kid has had more than his share of disappointment, if he’s ready to play and wants to play let him play, if not then don’t. But I’m sure in his mind he came here to play so if he’s healed and ready he’s going to play. Like all of us I’ll be excited for him and hoping for a good safe game tomorrow.
I'm guessing he's the type of competitor we want - someone who wants to play and came here to do whatever it takes to win. In his mind he's thinking "I've been cleared to play, and if I play I give us a better chance to win so damn the record, damn the chance of additional injury, damn everything else - I'm gonna play!" I'm not a mind-reader, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night...
I agree. I think it would be easy and justifiable for Whittington to shut it down for the rest of this season. Instead, he wants to be out there. I like the attitude for sure.
That's what they said of Shipley before 2 years of as good of WR play as we've ever had. Kid should play and see what he's got.
