There are a few things involved, but it mostly centers around bribery and corruption involving a real estate developer (Nate Paul) he did favors for in his official capacity (in exchange for campaign money, decorating Paxton's home, and giving Paxton's skanky mistress a job) and retaliating against whistleblower employees who called him out, which is going to cost the taxpayers about $3 million to settle. In fact, Paxton's request for the House to fund the settlement is what prompted the impeachment inquiry back in March. PBS surprisingly has a decent explainer on it.

My understanding of the evidence is that it's mostly based on witness testimony before the House General Investigating Committee, summarised
here. Obviously, when the Senate trial is held, there's going to be a lot more. They may have live witnesses, and obviously Paxton will be able to controvert everything and try to explain away the $3M he requested from the taxpayer and the favours he did for his mistress (an affair he doesn't deny).
One thing that's going to be interesting is that one of the Senators who will decide his fate will be his wife, Angela. She could recuse, and I don't think anyone would blame her if she did. If she doesn't recuse, would she go easy on him because he's her husband, or would she throw the book at him because he cheated on her? Hard to say.
