One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. Brown did this vs. ucla and obviously NO ONE has corrected his stupidity.
Funny thing is, the ruling looks like it was technically correct. I hate the rule, but it's funny that the Fox guys are ripping the official because they don't understand the rule.
When I saw the first replay I thought it might be a touchback. I don't know the precise rule, but he never did have possession of the muff until it was in the endzone.
I've always thought it's ridiculous that you can't tackle the guy in the end zone for a safety on that play, but I've seen it called before. Sometimes I think the rules committee tries to find ways to avoid safeties. Officials as well - can't tell you how many times I've seen players tackled in the backfield and somehow get mysterious forward progress out of the end zone.
If I were announcing this game and didn't understand the rule I think i would just say that we will check for an explanation instead of repeating incessantly that Baylor was screwed on the call. Texas was fortunate on the play, but it wasn't because of the officials.
And of course Brown turns around and logs a great return and almost breaks one. Maybe it's just when he gets inside the 20 that his brain freezes up! BTW who got that block? Someone just LIT a guy UP to open that return!!
Trying to follow the game on my phone. Play by play showed fumble with Baylor ball at 1. What actually happened (aside from return suckage)?
I can't believe we keep putting Curtis Brown back on punt return. He is not a good punt returner. Poor coaching decision. What else is new lately.
Seriously.. you muff a punt.. get another chance then try your Damnedest to get a penalty by whining to the ref... what a ******* prick, he makes me sick
There's something very wrong when you watch a punt returner and cringe every time the ball gets near him....
I think at some point you have to give up the fantasy of a game-breaking punt return game and just put someone back there who will catch the ball. It's sad that it's come to that. I don't care if it's Eddie Jones back there - he's what, three for three catching kickoffs now? If he can do that with punts too, hey, do it!
There's usually a reason why DB's aren't WR's. THEY CAN'T CATCH!!! With that said, we have 2 DB's returning punts. Classic!
Cedric Golden made a good point in his post game column. Don't blame Curtis Brown, blame the person that keeps putting him out there.
