I’m sure our future SEC “brethren” (in particular Vandy, U-Pig and Moo-State)* may have a different opinion, but Baseball America has named Texas its #1 preseason pick for the 2022 season: the Link

    Great post.

It’s good to see our baseball team getting the recognition they deserve. This author say we could have the best rotation in the college game—naming Hansen, Stevens, and Witt. I’d have to wholeheartedly agree.

He also advises to watch for newcomers Stewart (pitcher) and Skyler Messinger—the third baseman transfer from Kansas.

I gotta think Vandy drops by a fair amount after losing their two stud pitchers.

Now the Hogs are an interesting story. They’re still loaded with power hitters so they’ll still be dangerous and a threat to take it all the way. Of course, baseball can be cruel, as the mighty pigs didn’t even make it to the CWS when NC State got red hot out of nowhere.

As far as the anger goes, I don’t seem to get worked up over hated rivals on the baseball diamond like I do on the football field. Probably just me, or maybe the more slow paced nature of the game itself…?

Every time we play the pigs in the SEC (and even before), I want to see them cry like they did after NC State destroyed their hopes and dreams in 2021. :smile1:

Vandy is eerily like Rice was: great academics, crappy football, great baseball. Although my sense is that, sort of like Harvard, there’s an element at Vandy that’s only there because they’re from an old well-heeled society family. None of that at Rice—just pure brainiacs round South Main and Greenbrier.

I understand why other people (besides me) really hate the pigs at every sport. I can’t get worked up over Vandy. They seem like a well coached team and an impressive program, but they’ve just lost two future MLB starters and they’ll see a drop off.

    Chop,

You should sit through the potential parents meeting at Rice.

"Congratulations, parents, your child is valedictorian; so is every other student is the class. Your child has never made a 'B". Get ready for the meltdown because their first "C" is coming. Welcome to Rice."

I'm excited for SEC baseball. Texas needs to beat Vandy and Miss St plus (always) aggy and LSU.

Last year, there were some sicko pitchers in the new league: Leitner, Rocker, Bednar, Vandersomething from Arkansas, etc.

Granted, we may not be playing baseball in the SEC for a few years, but if we were, we’d have the best pitching staff by a country mile.

FWIW I was reading the miss st board and pretty much the consensus was that we were the toughest opponent they faced which is what I believed but still wanted to see what they thought. man would I love to get that hbp back, I know we had other opportunities but I believe we win without that and go on to win another title.
Can’t wait till next season. Hope the kids don’t believe their hype and practice as if they aren’t the number one team.

Oh and I would love to see us go wire to wire number one. Don’t know how many teams have done it, seems like I remember a Miami team doing it but don’t remember any others.

    Yeah really.

Would have loved to see a dual between Hansen and Bednar for all the marbles. How about a 1-0 win for the Horns and a national championship…

UT fan, I was in awe of the atmosphere at Miss State's ballpark during the tournament, would like to follow them a little more closely. Can you give us a link to the board you found?
