I know how to go in and set up in Windows for it to automatically open up a program at a certain time of the day, every day.

But how do I get it to perform a function after that program is opened? I need it to run an Update, which you usually would do by clicking on the "Update" button after you open the program. Can I get the scheduler to do this for me? and if so, how?

Probably not unless the program has an option to take a command line parameter. You're more likely going to have to try a Macro/automation program. Try a search at download.com. I've had mixed results with them.
