Kinda surprising that Washington signed Rebecca Greenwell of Duke to a contract on April 17th and then turned around and suspended her for the season on April 27th.

Ariel signed her contract on April 16th. Joining her in Washington is AJ Alix (TCU & Florida State) who also signed her contract on April 16th. Loryn Goodwin (OSU) signed with Dallas on this date.

On April 17th, Brooke signed her contract with LA as did Gabby Ortiz (OU). Other former Big 12 players signing on that day were Vionise Pierre-Louis (OU) with Minnesota, Imani Wright (BU & Florida State) with Phoenix and Teana Muldrow (WVU) with Seattle.

On April 20th, Roshunda Johnson (OSU & Miss. State) signed with New York.

Preseason starts May 6 with a game between the Washington Mystics (Ariel) and the Minnesota Lynx at 2:30 CST. The game will be online at http://www.wnba.com/game/20180506/WASMIN/

It ends on May 13th with a 2 PM CST game between the Dallas Wings and Las Vegas Aces. The game will be carried online at
    http://www.wnba.com/game/20180513/LVADAL/

Good luck to Brooke and Ariel! :hookem2:

Washington waives two players on 05/08/16, including Atkinson who likely was vying with Ariel for a spot.

Tanaya Atkinson, 6' Guard/Forward, Temple University
    and
Tinara Moore, 6-3 Forward, Central Michigan

Dallas released Loryn Goodwin and Natalie Butler. Based on her play this year, I thought Goodwin might have a shot at the roster.

Not really surprised about Natalie but I am about Loryn. Like you, I thought she had a good shot at sticking.

The Los Angeles Sparks play the China National Team at 4pm CST this afternoon. This is the final preseason game for the Sparks. Hopefully Brooke will make the roster.

Dang, neither game is on tv or online. :brickwall:

In fact, the Mystics' schedule doesn't show a single regular season game on tv. I sure hope that is a mistake.

I’ve been paying for the WNBA League Pass the last couple of years - something like $15 to watch every game during the season - but checked their website the other day and the option wasn’t available.

Thanks, DFW_Horn. I didn't know about it. Here is the link to the 2018 league pass: https://leaguepass.wnba.com/secure/subscription?sku=GSEASON
If you, as a prior season pass holder, haven't been hit up to renew your subscription, the WNBA is doing a poor job of maintaining/expanding their fan base. Wonder if they have thought about getting colleges in their area to include the WNBA league pass website when the colleges send out renewal notices for season tickets? Or maybe I just don't bother looking at mine. :smile1:

Thanks. They sent me a reminder before last season (with a $2 discount code) but nothing this year. That’s a good idea as far as trying to tie it to college WBB fans - established consumers who might want to follow the best players from their program.

My subscription renewed automatically about a week ago. I didn't know I had signed up for automatic renewal, but oh well.

Hmmm..Akhator got solid minutes off the bench last season. A bit of a surprise.

Probably because Liz Cambage came back to the Wings from Australia

Possibly also why Hamblin was expendable. Though I was surprised she was waived.

I assumed Cambage’s return and drafting Azura Stevens were the primary reasons for Hamblin. They could play Plaisance or Azura Stevens as stretch 4s but I don’t see either being as athletic/physical on the boards or the defender Akhator is. She’s limited offensively but the Wings' scoring isn't an issue and Glory Johnson has been known to get into foul trouble. I guess they could play Thornton for her defense/strength but she's only 6-1ish so a good, true PF would be a bad matchup. She is also just a year removed from being the #3 overall pick (though last year's draft was, IMO, the weakest draft class in the past 6-7 years).

“Official” day for teams to get down to 12 players is looming with the season starting this Friday. The Transactions page on the WNBA is not exactly staying current.

From Shades on the UConn board:
AJ Alix graduated from TCU and played her grad season at Florida State.
    Alexis Prince played at Baylor.

From DallasBUFan on the UConn board:

She was waived late in the process. I expect she will be playing overseas and will get another shot at the WNBA.

Glad Brooke got a chance, but during the Draft thread, I stated that her size would be an issue with such a limited number of roster slots. Lots of very good players get waived during this process; so, she's definitely not the first to have to go to Plan B.

I believe Brooke once said she was interested in playing overseas. If so, this is an encouraging message for her and others who were cut from WNBA rosters

I don't know Brooke's feelings, but, man, what I wouldn't give to be paid to live in Europe for awhile. Does anyone follow European WBB? I wonder what countries have the good teams and good opportunities. There's not a country in Europe I don't love (well, up to the Romanian and Bulgarian borders anyway.)
