The Link Test it here. I was supposed to be getting 700kbps/700kbps down/up from my parents sattelite internet (ugh) provider. Of course they were getting like 100k upstream and 1000k downstream and I had to ***** in order to get the upstream where I wanted (and was paying for) it to get the slingbox to work. Check what YOUR speed is. I bet it's not what youa re paying for. PS here's work: 15117kbps downstream 9367 kbps upstream (!!!)
www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ i like to use that cuz they have a mirror in dallas. i got really ****** apt internet now and i'm just waiting for timewarner to come and install our new internet. 726/357, but in reality it's much worse than that.
2005-08-31 14:34:19 EST: 1415 / 1284 Your download speed : 1449843 bps, or 1415 kbps. Your upload speed : 1315068 bps, or 1284 kbps.
If you are getting 700 up on satellite, that's pretty good. I usually get around 1400 down and 80 up. Also, if you are using sun java, that can skew the results.
I am on Time Warner - Austin, regular Road Runner in 78759... On the dslreports.com site using the Chicago mirror 2356 down 356 up On the speakeasy site using the Dallas mirror 4662 down 360 up Road Runner up speed sucks! Does anyone in Austin have the stats for the Road Runner Lite package? I am seriously considering switching after seeing those results.
If my memory is correct, they limit upload to keep you from running your computer as a server... I won't be surprised if someone corrects me.
wireless SBC DSL: using ownz's Dallas test: 1,252kbps download 317kbps upload using nyc's Chicago test: 1,232kbps down 275kbps up
No complaints on the download speed. Thats why I specifically mentioned that it is the UP speed that sucks.
Last Result: Download Speed: 4795 kbps (599.4 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 279 kbps (34.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Download Speed: 3659 kbps Upload Speed: 431 kbps don't know if that is good or bad. but i am happy with it.
Upstream bandwidth is for sending confirmation packets if all you are doing is browsing the Internet (and pron). I think it is about a 10:1 ratio of down packets to up packets. Now if you are serving up content on a server or doing file sharing, you are going to be seriously limited by slow up speed.
Can you point me in the right direction to get info for earthlink in Austin, please? I found this info but these prices don't look any better then TW (which is the same lines the earthlink goes through). It also looks like some of the services do require a commitment. Did you get a better deal than what is shwon here> Earthlink Pricing
