During the Panthers - Sabres game last night, Panthers captain Olli Jokinen was tripped up and his leg went into the air hitting Panthers Richard Zednik in the throat. The blade of Jokinen's skate cut Zednik's Carotid Artery. Zednik skated to the bench where trainers from Buffalo and Florida rushed him to the clubhouse where they stopped the bleeding and stabilized him. He was then rushed to a Buffalo Area hospital for surgery. He is currently in stable condition. ESPN Story Youtube Video WARNING VIDEO IS GRAPHIC
i have no idea how he skated to the other end of the ice. he might have been a goner if he collapsed on the ice
With Kevin Everett and now this...it has been an intense year for Buffalo sports medicine. The hospitals, doctors, nurses, trainers, and everyone else should get a huge pat on the back for their work with those two severe injuries.
This happened in Buffalo in 1989 to the Sabres' goalie Clint Malarchuk. He didn't skate over but stayed on the ice. I remember seeing the video that night on sportscenter amazed that he survived. There's a very graphic video from that night too.
