Next year would be her senior year and then she gets the Covid year too, right? So that makes two years if she doesn’t get the medical redshirt year..

Rori’s class isn’t eligible for a Covid year.

Yes, plus the interview table is on a raised platform, IIRC, so best to give the players plenty of room to walk behind him. You'd think the B12 would add a rear railing - it would be a bad scene if someone fell. Oh, wait ... it's the B12 ...

End of the season and conference championship and this is Vic's best year*.

    20-21: 18-9 (0.667)
    21-22: 26-6 (0.812)
    22-23: 24-9 (0.667)
    23-24: 30-4 (0.882)

Losing Rori, I said I thought we were a Sweet Sixteen team. But now, I think we're Elite Eight. Just need to break past that final EE game we keep stubbing our toes on.

*Does not include NCAA playoff wins and losses.

In the latest 'what if' (aka This path leads to madness):
Texas lost 4 games by a combined 14 points this season (-3.5 per game).

Rori's average +/- this season was +30.3. Granted, that was somewhat inflated by some really weak non-conference opponents so I restricted it to Power 5 opponents she faced: Arizona State +29, Arizona +13 and UConn +12 for an average of +18.

Obviously Madison wouldn't have exploded onto the scene had she not been forced into playing PG and shouldering more of the scoring load but she showed in the UConn game just how good she was playing at the Wing, especially for a freshman in her 1st nationally broadcast game.

Charlie Creme right now has #7 Tennessee and #10 Maryland in Austin with #2 Texas and #15 Norfolk St. I would think that would bring a pretty good attendance rate to the Moody.

I don't understand why have a NET ranking of 3, when the NCAA just tosses that out for "how they look".

The net rankings should be THE deciding factor with “diversity” coming through automatic bids. It’s the best math. But we operate in a subjective world that often times makes absolutely no sense. The net ranking takes into account who you played, how you played and where you played including overall SOS, giving us a really good apples to apples comparison. We lost four games by a few points. Only one other team has 30+ wins. I’m fine if we end up a 2 but we absolutely have a case for being a 1.

Rankings out today. Guess since Texas is one of Four No. 1 seeds, it wasn't a head scratcher to move them up to No. 4.:D

Where’s Vic? Ridiculous how the powers that be disrespect Texas and the job Vic has done this season.

Yeah... don't ever expect Vic to get credit for anything unless it's absolutely undeniable.

If paying attention, you would hear Schaefer. He’s had trouble scheduling non-conference games meaning coaches aren’t his friends. He’s bypassed for awards routinely. He said in presser that Curry is a coaching friend and he doesn’t have many. Schaefer is ultra competitive and coaches don’t like to play against his style. So unless he just crushes a season, he probably won’t be recognized. One could argue that this year he crushed it…..more than Stanford coach for sure. She has LOTS of coaching friends. I’ll bet Schaefer would prefer further success in Dance rather than this award. Motivation?

Actually he has gotten conference and national awards while at Miss State and conference awards while at Big 12. Coaches don’t like to be upset during the preseason. Therefore, coaches don’t like to take on a Vic Schaefer team. lol. I’m sure there is more to it and I know coaches have criticized our style of play, but this year many of those same coaches have heaped praise on Vic and this team in the press room after a loss.

Austin no longer prosecutes for this. She should have thought twice before heading to College Station.

Not sure that being able to smoke pot in Austin was a plus/minus in her decision.

IMHO, many coaches this year recognize what he has done without an All American point guard and with multiple player injuries, and are probably happy to see us leave! I suspect there also is some reluctance to honor male coaches, but I like to think that is less of an issue, as the college game gets more and more women head coaches. When B12 had coaching turnover (in 2021-22?) - Baylor, TT, OU, OkSt, WVa all hired women. (And now WVa and TCU have male coaches.) My 2 cents.

    The Kim Mulkey way (msn.com)
Mulkey "hit piece" came out today. Is that all there is? There is absolutely nothing in here that most of us don't already know. What an arrogant blow hard she is for all the pre-release statements she made.

There's no such thing as bad publicity. If they're silent about LSU's year, then that's an insult to Kim Mulkey the person. Got the attention she wanted. Exhibit A:

Nothing new here, except her justification for being a take-no-prisoners person. We are fortunate that she became a coach, I suppose, rather than a serial killer.

Scholarship situation assuming Shay, Taylor and Deyona all return. Would have to move Sarah back to Walk-on just to make room for those 3 and the incoming freshmen.

DFW…appreciate the update. Although Schaefer has done well in keeping transfers low, I imagine there will be one or two or three from the group. I can’t imagine Graves being moved to non-scholarship but I’m also naive. I’m not going to speculate on who those would be. The team will be much improved next year, but needs a little help in key areas. Portal possibilities should surface soon. Real ones as too many players to count.

I was informed elsewhere that once a walk-on gets a scholarship, they can't move back to walk-on. If so, granting Graves a scholarship as a sophomore was a terrible move I don't care how much it boosted morale.

I always thought scholarships were one-year renewables. If so, there are several on this list that I wish Vic would politely and compassionately not renew. Take for instance, Boutillier. She has not really played since her junior year in high school. She was in a boot all year long this year with stress fractures. With her height, she may never come back from this. If Texas ever wants to get over the Elite 8 hump, it's going to have to get rid of players riding the bench and doing little of anything else.

We needed to play one more game for Rori to have automatically gotten a red shirt. Assuming she wants one, I hope she gets an exception/waiver. (My math might be off by a half game)

With that said, can I just say that in my opinion some of the posts on this thread about player’s abilities and values are misinformed at best and heartless at worst. I get that they are just opinions (mine have no more value) but there is a chance a player or one of their family members will occasionally look in on this site. It has happened in the past.

It’s probably a good time for me to step away until next season when our esteemed coach will have, I’m sure, made all these decisions from a better vantage point.

See you in the fall. Have a great off season.
(Opinions expressed are mine alone and worth about as much as my coaching skills - better than some but far inferior to many.)
