Another day goes by and a young Black man approaches the media regarding the incidents. He’s an Aggie and he was there. He admits to the media that he was the one that “knocked the fool” out of McKinney. When asked why he did it, he said “I did it because the guy was spinning his binoculars around looking for someone to hurt. I did it to keep him from hurting anyone.”

 

"After I got accepted, I brought my letter up to show some of the administrators," Valdez said. "They just laughed. It wasn't anything in effect anymore. I ended up going to Tech, graduated a year early, had fun experiences at Tech and I just graduated in August."
Valdez subsequently moved to Dallas, but he'll be back for what might be the last game between Tech and Texas A&M in ages. It will be a little less than a month away from the 10th anniversary of the goalpost incident.

 

I forgot how stupid aggy fans are. Why did they feel entitled to their seats once the game was over (or at most until the players left the field)?

I've posted this before over the years, but the "entitled to seats" brought it back to mind. In 1979, we rolled into Kyle Field headed to the Sugar Bowl. The Aggies were in the process of adding onto Kyle Field. Things I learned that day:

1) Aggies sold tickets in Sections 300, 301, 302, but had yet to build those sections. They actually put "little league bleachers (5-6 rows) out on the concrete floor. 30 seats equates to 500+ tickets only in Aggie math, plus they could only see from the South 5 yardline to Navasota,

2) We were seated in Jim Duke's seats, which were 3, 4, 5, & 6. When we sat down, Jim was still outside playing celebrity and signing autographs. An Aggie over 70 and his wife showed up and he started cussing me for being in his seats, then threatening to "beat the hell outa me" if I didn't move. (This whole time his wife is telling me he has a heart condition, please don't hit him.) The "security usher" comes up, looks at my tickets and his tickets, then tells him, "1 & 2 are in the aisle, but you cannot sit there. "YOUR TICKET GUARANTEES YOU ADMISSION; IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU A SEAT" The Aggies did not allow for the aisles when they sold tickets. A man seated behind us thanked me for not hitting the old man. I said, "no problem, besides if I hurt him, I'm with the world's greatest trauma surgeon"

 

Old Kyle was a hoot (haven't been to new, improved Kyle). Adding on to old Kyle was like adding a kitchen to an outhouse.

Who says the new one is "improved"?

After all, no matter what changes they made, the place is still full of aggy on game day (until they start losing again, when it clears out really fast).

 

Two glaring things about Kyle Field:

1) Anyone with half a brain would have leveled the old field and rebuilt from ground up - they could have rented Rice or Reliant (NRG)

2) I have always thought it was hilarious that every major stadium overhaul (Florida Field, Owen Field, Jordan-Hare; Bryant-Denny; Memorial, as well as others) was designed by Lockwood Andrews & Neunam, which is 60+% Aggies, YET the Aggies chose a firm out of KC, which is virtually all K-State alums. WHY?

 

Full disclosure: I very much dislike he ags and who/what they are.

Given that, they are fans without fail and support to the hilt. They provide an advantage on game day that Texas does not have. CDC or Sark or someone seems to have altered the student section so that our stadium is much more alive than it was 10 years ago. I would like DKR to be an overwhelming advantage like lsu and bama are in their stadiums. Just my 2 cents.

 

If #2 is true, thats shocking that they would go outside the cult.

 

I called ten Aggies, including two former Chairman of their BOR. Never got a straight answer.

If you recall, LAN flew the BOR in for the unveiling of their proposal when A&M added on in the 70s. The night before the presentation someone snuck into the room to make sure everything was "ready for the great unveiling". When they raised the curtain, all the seats in the proposed Kyle Field were turned around facing the parking lots not the field. I was told even Bum Bright laughed.

I received multiple phone calls from Ags wanting to know if I helped my brother-in-law (LAN employee) do it or if he did it himself.

 

Like I said, I've never been to new Pyle. Everything you said is true. By "improved" I assume the got rid of the bat ****. Also, hopefully you can't smell urine 20 yards before you get to the restrooms.

Think in terms of the old Amon Carter with three decks all around. You may not have to watch the game through your knees like at Amon Carter, but make sure your boots are shined because you'll see lots of them. Carrying drinks up to the third deck is a feat best left to a member of the Wallenda (sp) family.

 

In defense of aggy, they gotta eat.

Longhorns To Hire Former SEC Position Coach For Support Staff

 

Just because Populous is based in KC doesn't mean their Dallas and Houston offices aren't chock full of Aggies. And the project was built by Manhattan... also all over Dallas and Houston and full of Ags.

I can't think of any project that LAN has headed up recently involving stadiums. High school ones maybe.

 

I can't think of many, if any stadiums that have had anything but minor cosmetic work done in recent years. Stanford was 30 years ago. Like Kyle, there are a few that need to be leveled and start over including Folsem (sp) in Boulder, The Coliseum, the Rose Bowl (although new management and workers would do wonders with that crap). If you can't fill up what you have, do you consider spending the cash to improve?

 

The shinny new object always gets attention.

 

I am not sure whether that is good or bad in general.
Won't affect Texas.
