I know it's early, but feel free to add any rumors. We are definitely playing Arkansas in Oklahoma City. Pretty sure we are going to Knoxville as our alternating series with the Lady Vols has been the one constant for the last 30 years or so. Not sure if the series with Stanford continues, but I sure hope it does. We may have completed our series with UCLA. Wonder if Coach A will schedule another road game in California for Imani during her senior season. Would really like to see another game in Houston (especially since the class of 2017 has some great guards in the area); but, there are only so many games to play, and with one neutral site game already in OKC, the chances of a second are probably slim. But, with Shaka Smart now leading the men's team, perhaps he will work with Coach A to get some kind of double-header planned soon. There was no Thanksgiving weekend tournament in the Caribbean or Hawaii this past season as in seasons past. The home non-conference schedule really needs to improve in order to draw some better fan attendance. Last season, it was basically only Tennessee. As the team's talent and experience continue to improve, so should the quality of non-conference opponents. But, can't overschedule as the goal is to be a top 16 overall seed in order to host a sub-regional.
We got UConn in 2016. These four teams are areas where we could be recruiting and are comparable to us so could be losses but would be excellent wins as well. North Carolina, California, Georgia, Dayton (OH)--just cuz I like them and they were a feel good team this season.
UConn series is two seasons away, so I'm guessing not a candidate for this coming season. Ohio State is up-and-coming. Florida State is surging, and lots of talent in the state of Florida.
I know it would be tough, but adding two others like those mentioned to a home and home so that at least 3 of them play in Austin every year would be great.
Texas will play Mississippi State on Dec 2nd in Austin and then travel to Starkville the following year.
So Vic Schaefer and Mississippi State are coming to town! Exciting! He will be the next Aggie Coach when Gary Blair retires! Vic is an Aggie and long time Longhorn hater! He was Gary Blair's assistant for many years and is a Super Recruiter. I saw he recently got a committment from 6'7" Teaira McCowan from Brenham! This should be a Great game! And I like how Coach Aston is filling her non conference schedule with some legit competition! HOOK'EM!!
Here's what I read on the posts above. As far as SOS goes, it looks pretty good so far. Miss State and Stanford at home are really good games to look forward to. Hopefully, at least a couple of more like that will be announced. Way too many non-BCS schools on the schedule; that's not gonna help home attendance. Playing at UALR is definitely a head-scratcher. Too bad we aren't playing in some sort of holiday tournament in the Caribbean.
Nice schedule. That four-game stretch, book-ended by the Vols and Cardinal, will be a good test for the team. Miss State and UALR both made the second round in NCAA play this year. Arkansas should be a good game also.
I like it. Miss State ( a new face) and Stanford highlight the home schedule. Those two plus Arkansas, Tennessee and ULAR will help bring up the SOS and RPI of the OOC schedule. That's five of the 11 games. The rest on the schedule are okay. Should provide good opposition as the team settles in and readies for the Big 12. No exhibition game listed. Wonder if that means they will be doing two scrimmages instead. I wonder which game will be the 11 AM game with the kids coming in? Or will that be a league game instead? That is a fun game to attend.
We seem to have this discussion every year, but this is a strong pre-conference slate. The Horns always have one of the nation's top SOS rankings, which I think validates the scheduling. When you play in the top conferences, it's common to play 3-4 so-called 'better' opponents early on, with the knowledge you're going to face a pretty brutal schedule once conference play rolls around. And our pre-conference schedule is usually considered among the toughest in the country. With respect to UALR, they had a great season last year, including upsetting the ags in the opening round of NCAA play. And in rd two they came within 3 pts of taking out #3 seed ASU, and earning a spot in the Sweet 16.
I like the schedule, I care about conference attendance alot more than non-conference. Those are the games that the fans need to show up and support, they're the most important.
UALR was a good team last year; not sure their expectation this year. We played in Little Rock last year against A&M; surprised we're playing another game there as it's not really an area we've recruited; I know Coach A is from Arkansas, but it wasn't a road game I was expecting. Obviously, we will always play the majority of our non-conference games at home; but, overall, it's a very "regional" schedule. No trips to the west coast (yes, I realize we alternate with Stanford each season), Midwest, or east coast. Games in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee. Maybe one day we'll start scheduling some teams from the B1G and ACC again.
