Stephon Taylor ..... McDonogh 35 (New Orleans, LA)
    4-star ..... DT ..... 6-4/292 ..... South Carolina

Taylor currently has 34 offers. He's been clocked at 4.80 in the 40 and sports an 82" wingspan. Taylor lives with his mother in New Orleans, LA so he likes LSU; his dad and brother live in Valley, AL so he likes Auburn.

Sounds like a long shot but if any one can bring him in, Strong and Brick can.

    Per TFB:
One of the guys that doesn’t get talked about much is Stephon Taylor (New Orleans, LA). Taylor has already (unofficially) visited Texas and has a strong relationship with coach Haley.

I came across some excellent news for the Longhorn faithful yesterday. I spoke to a source close to Taylor last night and was told that Taylor will take an official visit to Texas in January. He also has a trip planned to South Carolina.

I was also told in no uncertain terms that Texas is his current leader.

    — A source well connected in Louisiana said he does in fact have reason to believe that Texas leads for McDonogh 35 (La.) defensive tackle Stephon Taylor. The four-star prospect has always had Texas in his Top 3, but moving up to the leader is huge. Taylor would be an important land at a position of need.

Taylor named a Top 5 today consisting of...
    1. TEXAS
    2. Florida State
    3. ou
    4. LSU
    5. South Carolina
in that order, but said there was no order.

    Per TFB:
Taylor saw everything he needed to see in terms of how he fits in the scheme. His parents were very pleased with the trip. “They were treated like kings and queens and couldn’t believe the love shown by coaches and Texas” a source said.

We’ll see what happens but Texas is in a strong spot here. Felt they were leading before the trip…believe the lead is even bigger now.

    Just an FYI...

    From SEC Country, 1/18/2016:

"South Carolina’s first-year coach travelled across the country as he tries to nab one of the nation’s top uncommitted defensive tackles.

Four-star prospect Stephon Taylor posted a photo to Twitter of his in-home visit with Muschamp, defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson and defensive line coach Lance Thompson.

The in-home visit comes just a little less than two weeks before the 6-foot-4, 292-pound McDonogh 35 High School (New Orleans) standout is set to officially visit South Carolina.

This past weekend, Taylor took an official visit to Texas. He is slated to head to Florida State on Jan. 22.

South Carolina was one of two SEC schools included in his top five, along with LSU."

Give me money. I had sorta called it a couple of days ago, that he was the one who might not come in the end (mostly due to numbers at the DT spot). Muschamp smelled it at the right time and got a himself a good one. Had Taylor just gone and committed, we may have backed off Southall, but when he didn't Charlie wasn't going to wait. He would have taken Taylor in a heartbeat if he still wanted to come though. He is a very good one, Best of luck to Taylor at S.Carolina. If you are picking between Muschamp and Strong, no defensive recurit can go wrong with a cpick!

    It's an interesting choice:

    1) Muschamp has not proven to be head coaching material yet (at least SEC elite level)
    2) South Carolina seems like it's a notch down from the top dogs (Bama, Auburn, LSU, GA)

But... sometimes it's just a feeling you get and nobody can argue at that point.

Good luck to the young man. We are stacked at DT. Having missed on DT's the last 2 recruiting cycles in a way was a blessing.
