Ehlinger needs to come back if we're to compete for the Big 12 Championship Game. Our offensive line and our defense in general is not enough to keep us in games. It's obvious (to me, anyway) that Sam adds an extra option (Tebow, if you will) that Shane does not. Glad we have Shane to step in but, if today is any indication, some of the doom and gloomers while Sam was the starting qb now have me as a fellow dag-er…...Moon, no call out, hope your boy can come through the rest of the year if the injury to Sam is serious.....
Not just QB, but poor play all around today, which is what some of us predicted. Beck has about the worst game of his career, Dicker went back to sucking which made the ending a lot more suspenseful than it should have been. OL looked like last year. Fortunately the D was just good enough to get it done. Shane started slow, but was OK in the end. I don't necessarily blame him for the int, Duverney is to blame too. It looked like he pulled up expecting PI instead of going for the ball. That said, I hope Sam is back soon and I won't ever call for Shane over Sam again.
I’m not gonna be to down on Shane today after getting his first action all season, would have loved to see him hit some of those deep balls though. Happy for the bye week hopefully Sam isn’t out too long he has earned the right to lead this team
i think i'm both. i don't think it's going to be as effective with shane. i'm not "down on him" though. OSU, Tehc, and WVa will be tough to come out 2-1 without Sam
Well, let's see. Want to compare Shane's first start to Sam's first start this season? Herman's offense isn't built for Shane. That's why Sam starts. I've always said that. Now we have two weeks to get Sam healthy or tweak the offense for Shane. If Shane starts again I have more faith in him then Beck to tweak the offense.
I've butted heads with a few on this board regarding Sam vs Shane, but want to be crystal clear. I'm for the success of the Longorns and want them to win every game. Fully behind Shane if he's the starter now, feel like the game plan has to be tweaked for him to be fully successful.....
Come on... one of those misses was from 51 out. He did miss the other one that he should have hit, but he didn't "go back to sucking."
BTW.... No. 5 ND beats a bad Pitt team by 5 at home. UGA gets run by LSU Penn State loses 21-17 to a mediocre Mich. State team at home. Aggie squeaks by a mediocre So Carolina team 26-23 UCF almost loses to a bad Memphis team Washington loses to Oregon (Yeah... I picked that... ) And Iowa State's up on WV early (FYI I picked that one too, so we'll see if my luck holds) I'll take it.
or to get Rising ready. Question for Coach Mensa, do you get Rising ready to run the offense built for Sam or do you change the offense to be Shane friendly? Another question is what/who is the cause of the complete major brain fart that started with the 4th quarter of the ou game and continued through all 4 quarters of the Baylor game?
What do you mean a mediocre SC team. They are in the sec so clearly better than the SC team the Horns beat, and it was on the road in the mighty sec, so aggy is clearly top 10 and clearly should be ranked ahead of the Horns.
Looks like we will be moving up at least 2 spots. Seems Iike todays theme was trap game saturday for several teams losing or struggling in their wins. I hope Sam is OK and thank God we have a bye week because this team needs a rest after going 6-1. Who would have thought? Oh yeah.... Go Iowa State!
I think that series that set up Dicker for a 51 yarder was poorly planned. Dicker is a good but not great kicker at this point. That's 4 down territory IMO. You either run another minute off the clock with 4 straight runs or you get the first down. Either is preferable in my opinion to stopping the clock and putting your kicker out there for a 51 yarder.
Id like to see some lead blocking for the running backs..but I guess the coaches arent taking requests. Id imagine shane tweaks would be more fades from the redzone. What else would that entail?
I haven’t been on every thread today but I noticed/think this has to be the most fg attempts in two games in coach Mensa’s texas tenure. Doesn’t the binder say to go for it on fourth down?
It was odd, Shane wasn't dead nuts on, but it was almost like the receivers were pulling up to wait like it was Sam throwing the ball so the ball sailed over. I don't know that Shane could really "overthrow" a couple of our receivers. Here's hoping Sam gets healthy or Shane and the R's get their timing down in the next two weeks.
What a jack-wagon. Yeah, whomever is farting us to all these wins, I hope they keep it up. VH, "I fart in your general direction!"
Probably won’t happen but a like the idea. Ingram is the real deal but without a viable threat at the WB position in the zone read or option play, he will be limited as the D can zero in on the RB, knowing that Shane will only rarely keep the ball.
It was a bad frustrating day. But we won in spite of it. 2 games of last 3 we haven't scored in the 2nd half. That's just not going to cut it. Officiating was weird too. How the hell does the ref blow the whistle on that lateral? That was 7 pts. And the blocked punt??? Nobody on this team is kicking it 50 yds tipped and the punt never changed rotation or trajectory. Those were huge no calls. But we got some gifts on PI that we normally don't get. And we cleaned up the holding at least. Face mask when the guy is 5 yds out of bounds was not acceptable. Just a bad bad mistake. All in all a sloppy game by us, them, refs, and coaches.
So the Horns had another game where they didn’t score in the second half? Against a lesser opponent? Well the good news is that Tom is 2 for 2 on trap games.
Except this time we could have easily lost this game. It was one play at the end for the win. Not the spot we wanted to be in. Look, I'm happy with the win, but we are seeing a trend of playing down or up to the level of our opponent. Good to bet under the spread but it's going to cost you a game here or there. Tom lost 3 games his last year at UH that I'm pretty sure they were favored in each. Also beat 2 teams he was the underdog. Just don't want to see this pattern develop like we've seen against Tulsa, KState, and Baylor. When we were playing at the highest levels with Colt and Vince we kicked these teams to the curb. I know we're no where close to that now, but the next growth for this team is to take these teams out. I'm not worried at all about the playoffs. Honestly don't think we're that good. What I do want is to win the conference in a very winnable year. And that starts and stops with winning at home. The road games will be hard enough. @tech and @osu will not be easy.
We got better as the game went on against USC and TCU, but got worse in the other 5. Maryland: We take a 29-24 lead into the 4th, where we get outscored 10-0. Tulsa: They go on a 21-7 run to end the game. Kansas State: We were shutout in the 2nd half. Oklahoma: 21-3 in the 4th quarter. Baylor: We were shutout in the 2nd half.
