What a beast he has become! Looking like a high draft pick. Reminds me of Dez Bryant without the baggage. Thoughts?
I’m gonna take a swing here and say he’s the best WR ever to wear Burnt Orange. And for those who will argue Lam Jones, Shipley, Cosby, Sweed or Williams.......I get it......but I really think what we are witnessing with Lil Jordan Humphrey is quite special.
He IS a beast and quite special - could turn out to be the best ever on the 400 Acres. However, I'm not ready to anoint him yet...
He doesn't drop passes in critical situations the way Dez does. LJH also doesn't have a torn achilles tendon, so there's that. LJH is his own man. Dez is....done, probably.
Serious competition for the best: Top 5, not in order: Quan Shipley Roy Spreyer Thomas Honorable mention: McGarity Sweed Adams Sampleton Jeffery L. Jones
I was at the Cotton Bowl where Roy just took over the game against LSU. Don't remember exacts, but it was over 200 yds. He was a beast. In 2003 when Roy basically became a blocking WR for Vince he still had 1100 yds. I think people judge him on his pro life and not what he did in Austin. As to Ship, he had almost 1500 yds his Sr. season. He'd take my #1 slot. I love LJH but you are putting him in some awfully big company. He stays his Jr. season and gets anywhere close to Ships numbers I'll be very happy. The crazy thing is last year Mapps looked like the guy that could really break out and he turns around and leaves and we haven't skipped a beat. Glad to see Duverney having a bigger impact as well. Guy has stayed true to us even though we weren't his original 1st choice and have struggled finding a QB until this year.
Good point. Maybe LJ stays now that we have a QB. He could raise his NFL stock knowing he has that connection next year with Ehlinger. Hopefully, anyway.
He will be in line for a huge paycheck if he stays one more season. We will be playing for the CFP and Sam will be a heisman candidate. Lots of money if he stays one more year.
I never begrudge a kid getting paid and you never get that year of lost earnings back but that said, really think Jones, Johnson and Humphrey come back, The experience last year of all those guys leaving early and getting drafted way down from where they hoped or even going undrafted has to have been a lesson. None of the early possible departures are first round or even second round players and all can dramatically improve their stock so chances are good they all come back.
Just my two cents: LJH - This one is a wildcard. CJ - Guessing that his dad will encourage him to stay. BJ - Kid could improve his draft worth by staying. Just guessing that right now he would be a late round pick. He should look at how it has worked out for Holton Hill and Deshawn Elliott.
We started the season with 8 seniors starting on defense. I think some of them were replaced by under class men, but we’re losing a ton.
If CJ and LilJ returns, we will better offense. Just need a serviceable TE from Reese or Brewer. On defense, I don’t see how it can be worse. We will be better on special teams.
Man do I hope you’re right, but we will be replacing three DLs, and two LBs, and both starting corners! Players like Johnson, Omenihu and Nelson aren’t chopped liver, and frankly Boyd and Davis aren’t either. If indeed the D is better next year, I would expect to make a serious run at the CFP.
I just hope he talks to VY before making a final decision. You only have one chance to play your Senior year ...
LJH and CJ weren't even 1st team all conference. As much as I like them, they both need another year. We didn't really even start throwing the back shoulder pass well until the 2nd half of the season.
