Devin in my opinion may not shine in these practices. He’s a gamer. A lot of these DB’s are workout warriors trying to get recognized. Duv is a hard hat, blue collar dude. My hope for him is not necessarily how high he goes, but to the right team. The Titans would be great. Vrabel has seen what his old employer (BB) does with guys like Devin.
The only “possible” weakness in Duv’s game might be his separation and cutting ability. I say “might” because I have not studied that aspect of his game.
With ya, bro. Dev in Titans two-tone blue would be fantastic. I emailed his season highlights video to JRob
Can you say the words "quick" and "speed?" Watch the game videos and you will retract that statement faster than Devin can separate from a defender.
From Draftwire second day practice report: Winner | Collin Johnson | WR | Texas Another wideout that had themselves a day was Johnson. Johnson, the 6-foot-5 and 221 pound receiver, showed off with vertical speed and foot quickness that defenders had to respect. He was strong in traffic and he surprised many with his route running and separation ability.
We will look back on these 2 WR’s and say How the F did Tom Herman waste 2018 and 2019. Replacing these guys will NOT be easy! I fear we will need to depend on our running game in 2020 because I feel Sam will NOT have the weapons at WR. I hope I’m WRONG!
With Collin it was an interminable series of injuries. I don't think anybody could rationally argue that we didn't use Duvernay this season.
I think we used both of them pretty well. CJ was hurt too often, as Sangre pointed out, and perhaps it took some time to figure out how to use DD. As for replacing them, that's about recruiting. I think we have some guys who will step up.
In all my years of watching Longhorn football, i do not remember a single player making such great improvement as DD did from last year to this year. His route running, his ability to get off the line ball, his protection of the ball, coming back to help Sam, and his hands. i almost didn't recognize him. How much of that was Herman's ability to use him better this year, i cannot say.
Eagles and Smith are there to pick up the slack. Then you have guys like Lewis and Washington who could both be pretty good. I hope we get to finally see Whittington in the slot as he is every bit the athlete that Dev is. Dev's performance between this year and last year is all about Sam being comfortable throwing to guys in that slot. Dev was Dev in his junior year but wasn't targeted like he was this year. We will forget about Dev next year because Smith and or Whittington will be there to catch all of those passes.
Actually, this was always there before. You will notice he did not drop a catchable uncontested pass until this year. CJ and LJH/RHM were targeted much more frequently in prior years or the QB missed when they threw to DevDuv, usually because he was open deep. He was always there, just not always found.
Granting such a thing actually occurred for DevDuv, there recently was: # Name_______G__C TY__Avg/C_TD_LC__Avg/G__Year 9 Harris, John 13 5 141 28.20 2 54 10.85 2013 9 Harris, John 13 68 1051 15.46 7 68 80.85 2014 A 7 fold improvement Year over Year.
Beyond statistics, there was his field presence, which was totally different from last year. Maybe last year, he knew that Collin was always going to be 'the man" or Little Jordan. i saw a new DD this year.
Devon Duvernay is the quintessential silent leader who leads by example and not boast. Some say it's ineffective in football but I think it's the best way to lead. Go out and do it, just don't talk about it.
I believe in silent leadership up to a point. However, when the world turns against you, you have to stand up, call BS and lead. The lack of strong upperclassmen leadership led directly to the ISU and TCU losses.
Duv had a nice catch and couple of good blocks the first drive. CJ has a couple of catches and great block for the RB on the South's first TD drive. The north has been in double coverage on CJ.
Duv 20 yard catch for 1st down from Hurts. Hurts has been sacked 2 time on his first drive, make that 3. PAsses don't look too sharp either.
