I'm just not so sure. He reminds me a little of Beta. Like him, after the nomination is secured, he'll get universally positive media coverage. They will absolutely gush over him, and there will be no scrutiny of him or anything he says at all. Whatever racial controversies he had as mayor will be swept under the rug.
Do I think he'll get Obama-level black support? No. Black voters will never back a gay white dude like they'll back a black guy. However, I could see Pete rallying suburban women and younger voters much like Beta did, and like Beta, he's very slick and very good at mouthing platitudes in an inspirational but meaningless way that gets dumb suburban women and gullible young voters very excited even if he's gay.
