Kansas State defeats Texas at home. We suck! No words. The program is beyond any recovery with this mediocre coach and clueless staff. Now we really know why KM was ecstatic jumping for joy with KA's hire.
Led by 5 early in the 4th quarter, and then got outscored 15-4. That's four points over the final nine and a half minutes of play. Over that stretch, UT committed 6 turnovers, including 4 in a row after taking the 5-point lead. After Higgs got her and-1 at 9:42, it took UT almost 3 whole minutes just to **take another shot** smh. Joyner's bucket at 3:52 turned out to be our last points of the game.
In order to have a good offense you also have to have good, consistent, offensive personnel and I just do see it.
Seriously. I think this was said after the Arizona loss. And then the Hawaii loss. And so on down the line. We've definitely gotten lots of practice at saying it, thinking it, hoping it...
I think it’s horrible offensive coaching but also bad or inconsistent offensive personnel, especially guards being able to consistently make perimeter jump shots which has been an issue since KA has been the coach.
This is all coaching. Effort and hustle were there. Played well in third quarter. Then fell apart in the 4th. #50 for KSU scores effortless under the bucket - especially second chance points. Why did Collier sit so much in first half - with no fouls and was highest scorer? Why did Higgs travel over and over? Who can make sense of the substitutions? Can’t wait to see what a new coach can do with Charli, Celeste and new recruits.
KA must resign. Otherwise here’s hoping CDC does it for her which btw would be the right thing to do. She can coach a mid major program and thrive there.
Slop, Slop, Slop, No Strategy, No Discipline and a 5th year SR that still doesn't know you have to put the ball on the court before you can take of running. If that isn't the epitome of poor coaching I have nothing left to say.
And of course, you score 7 points in the 4th quarter and what’s the first thing you talk about? The suppose it lack of Defense.
Karen Aston is and has been nothing more than an imposter.... She has impersonated a viable, smart, efficient Division I coach and in reality is not even close to same..... She had an incredible opportunity to grow and evolve and she has failed miserably!!! Perhaps she could have more success at a mid-major, but I'm not even convinced of that.....
She absolutely refuses to acknowledge the fact that her terrible offense is the problem. You always here coaches tell athletes to take accountability but when it comes to coaches they still find a way to blame it on someone else. Aston takes no accountability for her terrible offense that has been looking the same since she has gotten here
CdC doesn't have to do anything as her contract is up. Unfortunately replacement pickings are limited (and probably no better than Aston).
Let’s not forget her bizarre substitution patterns. Texas was on a run, taking a 6 point lead late in the third. Aston subbed. Momentum stalled. I will agree with Kurupt about personnel in that a high percentage perimeter threat would have helped in the final minutes. K-state was clogging the paint and drives that had worked earlier were not working. Love Higgs but I’d rather see Charlie taking that late three. Of course I did not see what happened since I had already deserted. I just saw the play by play.
This is where I wish we could press the fast forward button to next year on the Play Station. I see no hope for the remainder of the season.
Oh yee of little faith! CDC will get the best WBB coach available. He sure did in softball, track and men’s tennis. His only coaching hires. There are several great coaches we can get. Many have been mentioned in the last man up thread.
Softball coach was able to bring some of his players from Oregon including an ace pitcher. As of now, b-ball players have to sit a year. That could change as early as next year, which could help or hurt Texas WBB.
We lose another closeout quarter again? There's no reason we should look so incompetent and un-confident with a lineup that includes Holmes, Collier, Sutton and Higgs. Period. They're not Atkins and McCarty but they should all be better than they've played this season. Finish the dang game, KA! Our players will crater 90% during crunchtime offensively because their coach has ZERO confidence on offense. And a team with questionable bench or on-the-court leadership will always lose more games than they should even with comparable talent. Offensively we run around like we don't know what the hell we're doing - we don't know which shot we SHOULD take (which is why we take bad ones a lot). Watch how great offensive teams look on offense. Deliberate. Confident. Energized by scoring - not just b/c they scored but also because they "executed" their play. It's a subtle but powerful dynamic present on great offensive teams. We crumble in the crunch because our coach crumbles in the crunch. When a team knows their coach's weakness is offense, it's easy for them to freelance offensively because there's no real structure to what they're doing. Just because a "play" is called doesn't mean there's offensive confidence or focused execution. This is why Karen's teams lose. It's never been about our talent. It's always been her ineptitude as an offensive coach, her lack of in-game management (including erratic subbing), mute assistants and her unwillingness to just hire an offensive genius the way other Division I coaches do. Instead she's stubborn and arrogant. So damn frustrating to watch us. And infuriating to look at the faces of opposing coaches who are clearly thinking, 'If i can keep it close until the 4th quarter, we''ll beat Texas because I'll outcoach Karen.' Maddening.
I don't even know what "plays" the team even runs. To me it just looks like everyone runs to a spot and just stands there, with the possible exception of the most BASIC high ball screen -- which they're not even good at doing, so it rarely accomplishes anything other than prompt the dribbler to move in a predictable direction. Regardless the entire "offense" devolves into aimless dribbling and reliance on individual playmaking, amid a complete absence of effective cuts and/or off-ball screens. Speaking of which, do we EVER run an off-ball screen? Has Karen ever heard of that?
That is the problem - finding someone that is better than Aston as there are not many, and they are not leaving to come to Texas. CdC will hire the best he can find, but time will tell if that is an improvement.
Considering that MOST of the coaches in the BIG XII are WAY better than Aston, I find that humorous.....
Senior guards repeatedly turning the ball over in the 4th quarter (or anytime really) causes me to switch channels. Weather they feel pressure to create because of a 3rd rate offense or they are allowed to practice this way and thus carry the bad habits into the game - either way it's on KA. She seems like a genuinely nice person that otherwise represents the school well - but she can't coach, at least in this league. CDC couldn't possibly want either of our basketball coaches on the floor opening night for our new arena - could he?
People keep talking about the new arena like it’s due to be finished in the next month. The arena won’t be done until another two years which is why I don’t think CDC feels any pressure in having to replace these coaches immediately.
I held out hope for Karen as long as I could see improvement. But we have peaked and even slid back now. If change doesn’t happen at the top, results won’t change on the court. Very sad to say this because I like her, but the players deserve better.
