Best aggy team in a decade and they finish 3rd in the $EC West - one notch above their worst finish in the $EC West.
The only looming issue they'd really need to fear is Alabama, as A&M will mostly be on par with LSU this coming season. I still don't think they have a shot at the division, but I'd put money on them having a better end-of-regular-season record than us right now.
IMO aggy has a very favorable 2020 schedule to potentially go 10-2. Outlier upset OT win at home vs. LSU in 2018 did not convince me that Jimbo & the program arrived (in 2019 aggy followed up that win with an absolutely crushing 50-7 loss). LSU will be a little down in 2020 and aggy gets 'em at home so they have a chance. However, outside an occasional upset, aggy has not proven to me they can win the big games with AL & LSU when the pressure is on. We will see.
Assuming aggy doesn't spit the bit against the Pirate or Kiffin, they will finish 10-2. Texas will lose one of the games to ou and one other to a conference team that Herman historically goes to sleep on, so Texas should end up 11-2 with a measurably harder schedule.
Arkansas won the shared one the year after we won our first. I'd argue that our 1964 team was better than the 1963 team that beat Navy, especially considering the Orange Bowl win.
IIRC, Hogs won 14-13 as Horns could not not convert a late game 2 point conversion. Believe it was a pass from QB Marvin Kristynik to Hix Green. Sabre will confirm or correct my recollection.
^^^ I do remember Kristynik was not thought of as a good passer..... Do you / we realize we are talking about the 1964 arky game... 56 friggin' years ago!? Damn I'm getting long in the tooth!
Dear aggy, Losing to elite national powerhouses does not make you an elite national powerhouse. Sincerely, HornFans
Article focused on what a bargain Jimbo is. Aggy math...SMH... Jimbo Fisher's salary approaching bargain status at A&M
Hey, a whirled-wide pandemic is going on and slow times in college football... Why not write a stupid article about what a bargain Fisher is at $75 MM over 10 years. Bargain my *** - much of the basis for the article seemed to be due to recent salary extensions & new contracts of other coaches. So, a 17-9 record in 2 seasons and the 2019 team did not beat a top 10 program on their schedule. For 2 seasons you got 9-4 & 8-5 and didn't contend for the conference title. So here is some math: Jimbo gets $7.5 MM each season X 2 seasons = $14.0 MM divided by 17 wins = $823,529.41 - so aggy paying him $824 K for each of those 17 wins. Jury is still out on Jumbo..... (TH is 25-15 in 3 years with 7-6, 10-4 & 8-5 records - jury is out on him too)
When I see these types of headlines Hornfans, I always suspect it is an exaggeration. But no! Aggie is f###ed just because Mond will be booed off the field by Old Ag in the first and all games, if he plays at all. Sully will not likely come down and the corp will not be defunded. All teams will face challenges but it is hard to think a physical altercation between old ag and Mond as anything good.
BUT...if the season goes to hell in a handbasket and no games get played...aggy can actually boast that they did not lose to a single team this season. Further, they will put a banner on the wall of the tacklebox attesting to the fact that they did not lose to ANY of their SEC brethren during the 2020 football season...
Whoop(s) aggy gets 1 year probation Jimbo gets a 6-month show cause for a pair of NCAA rule violations
Was this all based around one specific prospect? "The university ended its recruitment of the prospect." Seems like a pretty minor infraction to me based on the penalty.
That $5,000 fine is pretty steep, but I'm sure just a dent in the fee that the NCAA paid the private investigation firm to come up with this HUGE defalcation. Think the Aggies will have to raise ticket donation amounts to cover that fine?
