The bigger issue is counting cases as COVID that are only "probable". Also, in Texas if you test positive, they ask for all the people you have been in contact with. They are also deemed positive too. Sometimes those people are tested. Sometimes they aren't. The numbers we are seeing today are as much or more about testing and counting policy than they are public behavior.
Great news! AP is reporting that there is little evidence that large crowded gatherings will spread COVID19. No need to shutdown beaches or other gatherings! Little evidence that protests following George Floyd’s death spread coronavirus in US
What if say 2,000 people converged on one H-E-B without masks, moved past any "obstruction" and calmly shopped and went to the checkout stand demanding service and refused to move until they were served?
Well there ya go, DKR open up and call it a protest! The most idiotic quote imo was - “In many cities, the protests actually seemed to lead to a net increase in social distancing, as more people who did not protest decided to stay off the streets, said that study’s lead author, Dhaval Dave of Bentley University.“ Darn right I’m social distancing from the mob!
There's plenty out there indicating that the protests did NOT cause the spike. Surely you epidemiologists can find data proving your assertion.
Not if they are not looking for cases related. Common sense, which I realize is not often a character of liberals, tells you that thousands of people together was a problem. The spike came exactly 10-14 days after the protests. They are not tracing to it because democrat mayors not only advocated it, they participated in it. And yes I agree, Covid is not as big a deal as the government is making it. And if large gatherings do not cause spikes, why are they pushing no 4th of July celebrations?
All of these red states had been open for a month with no change then the spikes hit shortly after the protests. Do these people think we're this stupid?
There was no spike in cities where the virus has run its course (NY, DC, Boston). However you see spikes in cities like SF, LA, and Houston where the virus has room to run.
States like Washington and California are surging. They didn't open up like the south so I can't find a plausible reason why they're surging except for the riots protests.
Everyone needs to be exposed and the weak will have to deal with the consequences, just like throughout history. Anyone thinking otherwise, as a former prolific sluggster poster used to say, is not a serious person.
I think this study will be thrown out. They didn't use people on their deathbeds like the other HCQ studies did. *snicker*
So lets say that viruses are always mutating, lets say it mutates to a more deadly virus. It kills the host and likely kills itself. Virus mutation B mutates into less lethal and doesn't kill host but just gets past and thus becomes more successful than first mutation. This is how successful species propagate.
I think it’s a little more complicated than that. The more infectious virus moves faster through the populace where as the more lethal one moves slower (i.e., dead bodies don’t move). As a result, people with the lesser virus basically become vaccinated against the slower, more lethal virus. In short, it is similar to introducing a widely available vaccine that is basically the weakest of all possible viruses. Eventually the process of self-immunization favors the more infectious virus.
Can you imagine when CNN gets this story I envision the conversation goes something like this "How are we supposed to cover this when we been telling everyone the opposite for the last 3 months?" "Hey, I got it, let's call it 'surprising' news" Unfortunately for CNN, the study shows hydroxychloroquine "significantly" reduces deaths from the coronavirus
Even the LA mayor admits the protests caused the spike. LA Mayor Garcetti admits 'connection' between coronavirus outbreak and protests, after downplaying link
Back to the US. This one is an interesting look US coronavirus testing has expanded from ~100k per day in March/April to over 600k per day now. If we had been testing 600k per day the entire time, and if we use the previous positive test rate (admittedly an assumption), then this is what it would look like. Today’s surge would be small.
Hard to argue with Sooner logic. How could anyone possibly think hundreds of wildly irresponsible protestors and rioters in close proximity could spread a disease that is known to infect people in close proximity? Bubba gonna Bubba.
Good afternoon, Thank you for contacting the Texas Department of State Health Services regarding Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Texas DSHS case counts are confirmed cases only. A confirmed case is defined as a case that is laboratory confirmed (detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in a clinical specimen using a molecular amplification detection test). We do not include probable cases or positive antibody tests in our case counts. For further guidance and information, please visit the CDC’s COVID-19 website: If you have been around someone who was identified as a close contact to a person with COVID-19, you should closely monitor yourself for any symptoms of COVID-19. You do not need to self-quarantine. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/faq.html#Contact-Tracing Sincerely, Texas Department of State Health Services Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) #stayhealthyTexas DSHS website updates: https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/TXHHSC/subscriber/new?preferences=true
