No, you voted for White Nationalism, for racist policies and a return to tolerated sexism. ;)

See, broad brushes are easy to use when used irresponsibly. We all vote with different value systems. Some are single issue voters (see: Pro-life voters), some push for broad social change (See Bernie crew), some simply want the status quo. It's incomprehensible arrogance to think apply a single set of values to all Biden voters. In fact, it's an overly simple approach just like anyone that applies a single set of values to Trump voters.

Laughably, I'm fairly certain that OUBubba doesn't live in Oregon neither do I so attributing this particular Congressman to either of us is ludicrous. A vote for Biden wasn't a vote for AOC, Blumenauer or non-OK/WA Congressperson anymore than those who voted for Trump being responsible for a pedophile like Matt Gaetz or less intelligent Congresspeople like Marjorie Taylor Green and Lauren Boebert.

And the liberals in the media were celebrating that hypocrite when he cheered on mail in ballots for POTUS but disallowed it for the union vote at Amazon. Genius or not, as soon as he does something they don't like, they will turn on him and others.

These are the people who love Cuba because everyone is equally miserable. Except of course the Communist rulers.

I watched the moon landing because I was born in 1958. I'm so very happy I'm not full of hatred for Bezos. That is a sad pathetic life. The problem is this; that sad pathetic life wants total and complete power over all of us to enact policies that will make it's pathological OCD and inferiority complex feel better.

I don't hate Bezos. I do want him to pay his fair share in taxes. That's where the hate stems for some I'd guess. In 2012 (or 2014?) he paid zero dollars in income tax and actually received a child tax credit. Now, I'd say he has very good tax accountants but also we have a very ****** up tax system that the 26th wealthiest person (2012) in the world to pay NO INCOME TAX!

Yes, I realize that his wealth is tied up in stock yada yada yada. Bezo's built a tremendous company, smartly and was a trailblazer in several key segments. He's simply the posterchild for those that want a more fair (and progressive) tax system. I'd argue that the system that allowed him to accumulate enough wealth to be one of the wealthiest men in the world deserves some financial contribution from him. Remember for many of Amazon's early years they had the benefit of collecting $0 in sales tax. That's a system that allowed them to get off the ground with a HUGE advantage over retail before the tax code was updated to force them to collect tax.

Surely you can understand how someone worth $18.4B in 2012 paying no income tax would be perceived as not paying for the very systems that they've relied upon for their wealth accumulation.

With all that said, I wish nothing but success for Blue Origin and Amazon. I have close family friends working for Blue Origin and family/friends at Amazon.

Surely you can understand that personal income taxes are not based on a paper net worth. It is not even based upon liquid net worth. It is about income the INDIVIDUAL earned during the tax period after any allowable deductions have been taken.

It is ENTIRELY possible to have three comma worth and have next to no actual taxable amounts due and owing at the end of a given tax period. There also exists the mistaken belief by many on the left that not writing a check at the time of filing means no taxes were paid. SMART people have JUST ENOUGH withheld during the year so as not to get a refund and so as not to have to write a large check.

Liberals cringe when they think they've missed an opportunity to tax something - Space tourism tax: Congressman announces new plan after Blue Origin launch (yahoo.com).

    Excerpt:

"Shortly after Jeff Bezos — the world's richest man — completed his first spaceflight, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D., Oreg.) announced he's working on a plan for a new tax targeting space tourism.

The Securing Protections Against Carbon Emissions (SPACE) Tax Act would create new excise taxes on commercial space flights with human passengers for non-research purposes.

“Space exploration isn’t a tax-free holiday for the wealthy. Just as normal Americans pay taxes when they buy airline tickets, billionaires who fly into space to produce nothing of scientific value should do the same, and then some,” said Blumenauer in a statement. “I’m not opposed to this type of space innovation. However, things that are done purely for tourism or entertainment, and that don't have a scientific purpose, should in turn support the public good.”

Translation - here's a new opportunity to tax something, more money we can dedicate to our socialist pet projects.

Wonder if the liberals have a think tank somewhere that is searching for missed opportunities to institute new taxes?

The verdict is in; Liberals are the worst political movement in the modern era. There is no doubt about this. Those who vote for them are not intelligent people. And if they are by virtue of some high-functioning part of their life, then they are emotionally impaired. They need help

Texas city sues federal authorities to halt transport of migrants

"Laredo, Texas, alleged it was informed that Border Patrol would be sending a total of six busloads, up from three, equating to roughly 250 to 350 per day into the community, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. Southern District of Texas, Laredo Division, which names DHS, as well as its subagency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and specific officials, as defendants.

The week prior to the lawsuit, Laredo authorities reported a 40% increase in COVID-19-positive migrants and a total of 172 people infected with the virus that were transported by authorities.

"Although the influx of migrants is a federal issue, the federal government has made this a municipal problem to resolve on our own," the city wrote in the lawsuit. "As Laredo is an underserved medical community with limited resources, it simply cannot accommodate a surge in COVID-19 positives. The city cannot accept any more buses of [migrants] as the flood of [migrants] has caused irreparable harm and injury to our community given little to no hospital availability."

Bystander says: Laredo is a border town here in Texas. I grew up there. It is about 90% Hispanic. The author of this article used the word ALLEGED when referencing Laredo officials saying the Border Patrol would send more illegals to town. To say alleged is a sign of a sick corrupt Liberal mind. This author is desperate to maintain the lie that is the delusional world of EVERY PERSON WHO CALLS THEMSELVES A LIBERAL.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the worst President and VP ever. They have already won the trophy.

The above quote is the essence of liberal ignorance.

It is difficult to imagine the magnitude of the financial contribution Bezos has made to the USA. How many hundreds of thousands of employees does Amazon employ? How much have those employees paid in taxes? How many warehouses and offices has Amazon built? How many construction workers, raw material suppliers, engineers and architects have earned a living off of Amazon's capital investments? For how many companies has Amazon's platform boosted sales of products? How much have transportation/delivery services and their employees benefitted from delivering products sold by Amazon? Sales of delivery vehicles? Fuel suppliers? How many people have benefitted from, and paid taxes on, the gains of Amazon stock? How many doctors and nurses have earned money off of Amazon's health insurance? How much money has been paid into social security and unemployment benefits by all of the above beneficiaries?

    Liberals are DUMB!

What a fascist. He gets to decide what is valuable for the whole public. He gets to dictate that only scientific value is good. But if people want to pay tickets for this, then there is perceived value for each of those people.

Why should a politician get to dictate that people can't buy tickets to do this? There will be sales tax and corporate income tax in this situation.

If a rich guy wants to spend his own money to buy a rocket and fly into space on his own dime. This fascist Congressman doesn't get to say what rich guy does with his stuff.

Full disclosure - I'm too young to have much first-hand memory of disco music when it was new or the "disco era." I do remember hearing disco ridiculed in the early '80s by both blacks and whites. I've heard plenty of disco since then, but what I know of the disco era mostly comes from my parents who were in their late 20s and early 30s at the time.

When I think disco culture, I think of two big things - the Bee Gees and Saturday Night Fever. Nothing very black about either one. I think of dorky, urban white dudes in leisure suits and their girlfriends with bad perms or Toni Tennile hairdos dancing and thinking they look cool. The main place where black people fit into the equation is laughing at them (and rightly so) for being such crummy and contrived dancers.

I'm not saying there were no black disco artists. There were plenty, but it wasn't "black music," and I don't think most people thought of it as such. I think of funk music as "black music" - James Brown (in the '70s), Kool and the Gang, Rick James, the Commodores, and some of Prince's earlier stuff. Though disco and funk have some superficial overlap, I don't view them as particularly similar. I also remember black kids in Oakland in the early '80s laughing at disco music and talking about how much it sucked. They were very much anti-disco.

The point is that an anti-disco promotion wasn't likely to be perceived as anti-black music. Could some dumb, drunk yahoos who didn't know anything about funk have brought some funk music into Comiskey Park and trashed their records? Perhaps, but I'm not buying that it was the dominant stuff trashed, and I'm not buying that it was generally targeting music that black people mostly listened to. It was probably mostly crap that dorky white people listened to and disproportionately Bee Gees albums.

But if you have to ******** a little to make Whitey look mean, then by all means.

I'll probably never understand that mindset. Even within just the space flights, how many people have gotten paid to make it happen? Then the companies they've created and / or run....
Also, Amazon has yet to kill bookstores as I see Barnes and Noble, BookPeople, Malvern Books, Austin Books and Comics, and Amazon Books just to name a few in town.

Did I say that? Nope. The tax code is written to favor wealthy citizens. Bezos has simply become the poster child (warranted or not) for the progressive left. I have no idea whether he's lobbied for personal income tax changes. It's not a coincidence that on the day he flies to space he announced 2 $100M charity donations. Bezos hasn't been as charitable as his fellow Forbes wealthiest American members. His ex-wife donated >$5B in the past year.

Amazon has been heavily involved in tax code lobbying over it's history. In 2013 when they settled with State AGs to begin charging sales tax in all States they concurrently spent millions to ensure all internet sales transactions collected taxes.

How dare a business being told that they have to pay State sales taxes want the same practice applied to ALL internet vendors. Damn that equal protection clause...

I simply said he's a poster child for a system inequality, a tax code that needs to be reevaluated that allows an uber-wealthy person to have years where they pay zero in federal income tax.

That's the point. There are enough tax loopholes that someone valued as ~$20B in '12 to not just pay $0 in federal taxes but actually get a credit. That occurred in 2011 for Jeff Bezos. Again, he has tax accountants that only he can afford and reportedly lost money on his investments which offset his taxable income. I'm not faulting him but a tax code system.

We need to pay for the government we want. @Monahorns apparently thinks government is free.

I'm puzzled by the theory that if you "create jobs" you shouldn't owe any personal taxes. Can you elaborate?
