I like what Sark did in today’s game. Sark on the change for the #Longhorns defensively in the second half: “I didn’t love our effort by a couple of our players, quite candidly. We got the right guys in there.” #HookEm
Did the front 7 play a better game w/o 47 and Agent 0 or was KSU that bad? I mean other than the 70 yd TD run
Can't tell you if K-State was that bad, but their play calling was the worst I've seen by ANY team in years.
With Skylar Thompson out, KSU had pretty much no passing threat at all. Vaughn is very good but he had our entire defense keyed on him and committed.
A win is a win, but yeah, stopping a K State offense that basically had no downfield passing threat probably isn't necessarily a sign of a turnaround. As mentioned, I thought K State bailed us out with weird play-caling and questionable use of Deuce Vaughn as a power back in short yardage.
Well, then KState got a break as Bijan was out, Luke and Overshown were out, Josh Thompson - out. I saw a. FR OL for Texas in the game. KState got a break playing a disheveled Texas team that had no real upside in winning. Geez, come on guys.
In the off-season, Texas must upgrade the oline and front 7 on D. Above all else. QB needs an upgrade and added depth elsewhere, WR, Secondary, RB. This team had no leadership and severe cultural issues this year. Yes the D changes worked in the second half but a lot of work is needed in the off-season to even get back to 8-4 level in 22’!
What defensive changes? Vaughn got 143 yards on that stupid defense. An adjustment of putting a five man front forcing junior to pass would have been a great defensive adjustment. They couldn’t get a half a yard on a five man front. Lucky we had Roschon running and running the clock. Our defense gave up 5,107 yards this year, 425.6 yards per game, 224 rushing per game, 201.6 passing per game and 31 points per game. Hard to watch. The best stat from this game is we now lead the Kstate series 12-10. Had we lost, we would been tied 11-11 with those purple plains people. After the game I mused what our record would have been if every player played as hard as Roschon.
Ivan, Some people confuse the atrocious K-State play calling with K making changes and "shutting down" their offense. Credit the coaches with making some personnel changes, and lots of situational substitutions, but I still have questions about WHY certain people are on the field.
I suspect it's because the guys behind them are either so underdeveloped or unprepared to play at this level that they aren't going to be able to outplay the guy ahead of them who just isn't trying that hard or doesn't know what's going on half the time. That goes back to the whole depth and competition issue we seem to have right now pretty much everywhere but the RB position.
Don't forget both QBs injured so we so we have to implement a wildcat offensive scheme for much of the game.
This is all you need to look at! Our defense gave up 5,107 yards this year, 425.6 yards per game, 224 rushing per game, 201.6 passing per game and 31 points per game. I’m a believer in Sark but Coach PK should be shown the door!
Obviously I have no insight, but I think they will be gone next year. I truly believe Sark is the right person. He stands up for what he believes in and is cleaning house with those that need to start over elsewhere.
you forgot LB. That group was the worst on the D side of the ball all year and that's saying something the way the secondary played and the fact we have no one that can pressure the QB. But LB was just atrocious.
I thought Ford playing helped a lot. Kid at least got some penetration and negative plays. He needs some weight but has decent speed and seemed to be around the ball.
wadster, Did AC "forget" LBs or just not comment because he hasn't seen one in the Burnt Orange & White all year.
Just like Grinch who was the savior and missing link for OU? Last year he was a genius, this year OU is 11th in the B12 in passing D. So PK has a track record of being really, really good and wondering if maybe it’s not the coach? Patience. If I was CDC, no changes for 4 years . Not one. We need consistency more than any other factor.
So was Herman just this bad at evaluating talent? Or has there been that little player development? Or just poor teaching? It seems like guys don't understand basic concepts of football (proper angles on pursuit, pad leverage, shedding blocks, zone defense assignments, etc...), but then that's been the case for some years now.
Prodigal, You can't teach the world's smartest player to learn anything. Herman's players immolated their coach.
I think Skylar being out hurt the cats the worst. We know Texas has capable backups at RB, and Ford played well. Howard is a worse passer than Tyrone Swoops. When you can focus on stopping the run it makes things a lot easier, along definitely some bizarre playcalling to go along with it.
When you play better on defense than you typically did with the starters, I don't think you can count those absences as a liability.
I may be just crazy but I honestly think Jacoby being back, even though he may not have played a lot, meant a lot to the team. He’s a leader and it helped the D, imo.
