There has been a lot of SEC-bashing by Longhorn fans over the years so I'm not completely sure everyone is on board with joining the SEC. If you were able to use the Infinity Gauntlet to determine the outcome in a snap, what would it be?
The decade of mediocrity is over. 2022 will be like Saturday at a golf major, “moving day.” 2023 we will make the playoffs.
I hope you are right. Times are changing but I am not sure it is for the best. I look for 7-4 or 6-5. An unproven QB,no experience on the OL,and no defense. I like your orange colored glasses.
I disagree a bit. The OL has a decent amount of experience unless you are talking about the backups. The starters stink, but it is not due to inexperience or youth. I would also add an unproven kicking game.
I’m not a SEC fan, but what do I know. I would have rather seen UT head PAC 10, only because I enjoy traveling to that part of the country. Been to Baton Rouge, Meh. Mississippi- I’ll not comment ARK- goes unsaid. Bama people are bat sh crazy about their teams. I can’t keep a straight face when presented the haircuts. Give me AZ, the Rose Bowl, even Oregon.
One potentially big difference I see for the 2022 season versus last year is that with the exception of LB, we’re going to have depth. Depth in the OL (although they’re young), depth in the DL, although we desperately need a rush end, and depth in the secondary. I didn’t say elite talent, but they’re not chopped liver either. Some breakouts are likely. Not to mention that we have both depth and “elite talent” at RB, WR, and arguably, QB. Unproven (at QB), but the pedigree is there. The one exception is linebacker. And of course, we really need a rush end. But again, I don’t think that depth is going to be an issue — unless the unexpected happens — and perhaps PK & GP can scheme around the lack of a rush end. That’s the assumption. Linebacker? That may be another story.
That’s my concern, LB. I am not as worried about the OL as most are. Bijan, Roshan and the WRs UT has will help the OL.
I re-watched the 1999 UT v OU game and Major Applewhite could not agree more with you. He will tell you that a QB only needs one or two seconds to make a good read and throw with an above average RB (maybe year is wrong because Mitchel was RB) and very good but not great WRs on the team. Of course said QB will take a beating. I guess he would also tell you that having some really high NFL caliber talent on the defense is also very useful.
Frankly I expected a lot more B1G and ACC votes. Looks like the SEC move is growing on some folks. Very surprised anyone wanted the original Big12 back. Biggest surprise is that almost 90% prefer an outcome that results in being in a conference with A&M.
I intentionally do not re-watch games like those. I was just agreeing in a rather ambiguous way that the O-line might not be the biggest problem on the team. You insenuate a good point, the biggest problem week to week will probably depend on the opponent. For example, in OU and Kansas games, I would not say the Oline was the biggest problem. Instead I would argue the entire defense was a problem. Against Arkansas one could argue that the O-line was the biggest problem. I forget the rest of the games.
Didn't have haircuts on my list of SEC negatives. Spreadsheet updated. Are you able to keep a straight face when presented with Quinn Ewers?
I can hardly wait to see the Arkansas fans back in Austin every two years like when I was in school. What a charming group. And LSU? Marvelous. We are going to be awash in cracker sensibility. I like California and Arizona But I was not polled on the matter and don't sit on the board of the people at ESPN who make the decisions.
Do you recall my note about the LSU fans traveling to Austin a few years ago for the football game? They were traveling on 99 going around Houston at 75 mph with the windows down in >90 F mid-morning and their bare feet out the window.
Next time LSU comes to Austin, I'm going to recommend to Chris that he triple their ticket allotment and create a "coonass only" parking area. Let them come and set up on Thursday and cook all weekend.
Yeah, I really don't care for this poll, but I will choose going to SEC in 2025 because going by then is a done deal, worse case...
I would be happy winning 10-11 games for a start - whatever conference we're in. When was the last time that happened? Not really up for losing to BYU, Houston, Cinn, etc either.
I did this morning. I listened to Finebaum just now and upchucked breakfast and lunch after listening to the idiot call ins. They make Aggies sound like Nobel prize winners.
