I feel the audio was grasping at straws. It may prove she provoked him by breaking the glasses. But his response is the problem. You can't do that. If someone gropes your wife and then leaves you can't go and kick his a** even if anyone would understand why you did it. If the groper has stopped harassing her then all you can do is call the police. There was a case about this and I remember how the police described the situation just like that. So it's the same with Beard. He should have left the house and waited for things to cool off. As I said before, I've been in that very situation and that's what I did. If he did in fact attack her, then her provocation (evidenced by the recording) wouldn't matter so much.
Gotta love HF. We would be ridiculing and excoriating any and every other fan base that was crying about its coach being most likely sacked in a case like this and clutching and grasping for any reason to keep him. Yet, here we are...
Probably. But I'm not crying. As I said, my wife and I kind of think it's justified after reading the police report.
With the money he has already made, happiness for Beard could be retiring as an ExPat to Costa Rica or Portugal, and living a quiet life of fishing and enjoying his remaining time. Just one among many possibilities.
I know. Keyboard crying! I'm fine. It's a damn shame. Wonder how things were around the dinner table last night for Chris and the fiance. Somebody or both blew this one big-time. It's one of the all-time F'ups in sports history.
A source told CBS Sports that Del Conte was not the one who ultimately decided to fire Beard, that this decision came from others in power at the university. Texas fires coach Chris Beard for cause following arrest on felony charge of assaulting fiancée
My angle is contractual. Is there a clause that says that the university can fire Beard without compensation if university officials are too weak to stand up to the Twitter mob? UT can fire Beard at any time. The question is what is the financial obligation?
She said six years. Maybe engaged for three. My comment about a toxic relationship is just an observation. It has nothing to do with Beard's firing. That has to do with his actions.
There is a clause in his contract stating he can be fired for cause without pay. One of those causes is being arrested for a felony. And that just happened.
Glad this is just basketball. I quit watching it. Sorry Beard got into this mess. And now my rant on basketball in general… Open Rant: Basketball is a flawed sport. The rules are a bust. The last 3 minutes is the only part that seems to matter…and that takes 20 boring minutes to play with timeouts and fouls. The only sport that to get a team that is behind, back in the game, they have to commit penalties. In football that would be like, if your team has a lead but the other team commits a personal foul, the guy that gets fouled has to kick a 30 yard field goal. If he misses it, the other team gets the ball back. They could help the game be more logical and enjoyable by a rule— if you intentionally foul in the last 2 minutes—the fouled guy gets 5 free throws. Close Rant
Good points. Also, in that last 2-3 minutes, reduce the shot clock to 15 seconds so the team with the lead doesn't just milk it. That's boring as well.
HIC, Puleeeze! I have been around longer than almost anyone on HF; don't know how much longer I'll be around, but however long it is, it will not be long enough to erase the thought of PomPom nude.
For the last time, I’m going to tell you all that I did not graduate college and I encourage you all to stop using words that I need to google
