I know for a lot of people they're a joke but for those of us who grew up in that era they still rock. Just wondering what everyone's favorite Monster Ballads are. I have two nominees for the top.

    Love Song by Tesla
Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue

"Sister Christian" by Night Ranger is the gold standard against which all other are measured and found wanting.

Some of my other faves are:

    "Heartbreak Station" by Cinderella

"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison

"Fly to the Angels" by Slaughter

    "Angel" by Aerosmith

"Save Your Love" by Great White

Back when this music was contemporary I considered myself a "real" metal fan and turned my nose up at a lot of these songs, but nostalgia can strike anyone. [IMG]

Lots of good ones have been submitted already...

    "I Remember You"

    "I'll Never Let You Go"

    "Amanda"

    I'd like to add...

"Tonight" by Ozzy." This song is really elevated by the tasteful solo work.

"Love Hurts" by Nazareth. This is more classic rock I suppose, but it's close enough.

"I Saw Red" by Warrant. Seriously disliked this band, but I enjoyed this tune and "Uncle Tom's Cabin" for its sweet acoustic intro. [IMG]

"What You Give" by Tesla. This one goes on a bit too long, but I really liked the guitar tones.

All these songs were pretty cloying and sentimental, but that is probably the nature of ballads in general. Hehe.

I think some of the submissions have wandered from the "Monster" Ballad genre...I didn't envision Styxx, REO Speedwagon, Journey or the like when I saw the thread title. I was thinking more heavy rock/metal bands.

    I second "Beth" by KISS.

Also, although I was much less of a fan of the Hagar years, Van Halen's "Love Comes Walking In" is worthy of mention.

I despised these songs when they were current, but as a previous poster noted, they do grow on you. The fact that we all knew some girls that really enjoyed these songs and it worked to our benefit helped.

Steel Panther is a current 80's metal band, if that sense.

Check out "Community Property" by Steel Panther if you like this genre at all. True awesomeness.
