We have now established the fact that it is more than twice as valuable as a Big 10 Championship ring. BTW, the seller wasn't necessarily a former player. Don't a lot of the support staff like trainers, managers, etc. also get rings?
surprised it is not higher. we have high rollers who donate more than that to the LHF in order to get a good seat at DKR. I would much rather spend $6,000 on that ring than for a good seat to watch last season's home games.
Two items for sale on the same page at that link are, uh, questionable. One, a print identified as "Texas National Championship print" or the like has VY scoring a TD against Michigan. Another, a burnt orange #12 jersey, is identified as a "National Championship jersey". Burnt orange. Not white. Go figure.
The rings given to staff etc, are not diamonds, but rather are CZ. The rings given to the players and coaches at valued at about $21,000. This is a staff member ring.
You are all assuming that the owner of the ring willingly sold it. It is entirely possible that it was stolen, as was the case with my 2005 Rose Bowl ring (which I was ultimately able to recover by searching ebay daily). I identified my ring because the lister didn't have the side image blacked out, so I saw my initials and knew that it was mine. Savvier crooks black out that part of the ring specifically so the victims can't as easily identify them.
Rings like this are bought by collectors who would probably never wear them. I bought a T Man's ring from an estate in the 1990s. He had made it very clear that he wanted nothing kept that the immediate family did not want. He was an administrator who had virtually a drawer full of them. I would never think of wearing to any UT or social event. Now the knock off MNC ring, maybe to a Presidential Inauguration, the Diamonds and Denim Ball. But I would have to think about it.
