Jim Quinn penned an article worth taking a look at (link). The article breaks down the statistics of producing ethanol, who wins, and who loses. Unless you have stakes in Big Oil, Big Ag, or grain futures, you're one of the billions of losers.
I just love feeling like a frickin drone for my politicians. How can I even be sure this new crop won't do the same??????
My relatives in Iowa love ethanol and they like politicians who support ethanol. I live to see the day when a candidate for POTUS has the guts to speak out against ethanol subsidies during the Iowa caucuses.
Mushburger I remember you posting on the unintended consequences of using corn for ethanol years ago We have seen some effects here but not like they have in other parts of the world. It looks like unintended is about to bite us in the butt
If you could use magic to make an 80/20 solution of ethanol and water from thin and and good vibes, it would still be a ****** fuel. You have to boil 4 gallons of water and 1 of ethanol for every gallon of fuel you get. That is called a "negative energy balance", which is code for "just use the boiler fuel directly instead."
Forget the inefficiencies of ethanol. (although many to choose from) The bigger problem is the corrosive nature of the mixed fluid. I work in the petro industry and when all stations are forced to house e15, the fan will be hit. Thousands of stations will likely close down because current storing and dispensing equipment will not be capable of housing e15, and most can't afford to fully replace. This will cost a lot more than nickels and dimes at the pump. politicians = idiots
