that article is spot on. i applaud dodds and powers. this was a game changing move, and i respect the hell out of them for making it happen.

the notion of a level playing field is completely irrelevant now. texas has essentially picked up the entire game and moved it to a completely different field altogether.

every team in the conference should be reeling as a result of this move.

Yeah whatever. Even if A&M tried to bolt to the SEC the legislators might have shot it down. Oh Wait Perry might have worked his magic and made it happen. Honestly, I wouldn't care much if A&M decided to bolt. I would love everything they stand for to be meaningless. They have built their traditions to spite Texas and pretty much all they are would seise to exist. Go for it Aggies... Tear down all your traditions because you hate Texas.

"Texas has essentially picked up the entire game and moved it to a completely different field altogether. "

That was a great way of explaining it! [IMG]

    But this:
every team in the conference should be reeling as a result of this move."
I respectfully disagree. Who else in the conference heck or even the county would have warranted this deal?
I guess the question is will this impact recruiting more for the Big 12-2 schools against Texas than it will impact recruting all over the country?

I think this affects other schools whose pool of recruits will now be exposed to the greatness that is Texas more than ever.
The Big 12-2 already recruited against this.

the reason i think that the conference as a whole is reeling because of this goes back to money.

texas has a deal with ESPN which is going to impact the entirety of the conference TV deal. it's another clause to negotiate through as beebe tries to work with fox or whomever to get as much money as we can. so sure it might end up just the same--but there is a possibility that it will not. and texas wont care because they already have a revenue source coming in from somewhere else.

i dont fault texas for this at all. you are looking out for your best interest. i wish our brass would do the same. when all the conference stuff was going on last summer, texas was working behind the scenes to do what was best for them and only them. we were trying to do what was good for us and for the conference. which was our mistake. we need to be thinking of us and only us.

Aggy doesn't have the sack to leave for the SEC; they can talk about it all they want. It will never happen.

My thoughts (and only my thoughts):

This was exactly what I was hearing here in waco, aggy saved everybody. The suckfest between the bears and aggy was unbearable. aggy fans I know still want the SEC in the worst way. They are probably right, culturally and academically, they probably a better fit in the SEC than they would be in the PAC whatever. I agree. The only reason they did not go was they did not want to be the reason the big 12 died. They wanted that blame on us. Like the previous poster said, they dont have the sack.

The article also failed to mention that, even though OU can stand on their own, they were in our corner. Another testimony to aggy irrelevance.

I dont know what this deal will bring. But UT is not doing anything that anyone else wouldnt do if they had the chance. I know here in Waco, UT is the evil greedy empire, and we should think more of the others in the conference. But I guess you would probably think like that when nobody wants you. Baylor had no problems leaving Houston, SMU, TCU and Rice behind. They did whats best for then at the time. So are we. We are not doing anything the others cant do.

Let aggy go. If I were them, I wouldnt buy season tickets til it was announced we were headed for the SEC. Good riddance.

I have a question for aggy. Who would you rather have as your AD. Deloss or that doofus you have now?

On November 28th, this writer claimed A&M was back to being relevant. Apparently, this guy also received a dose of reality with this new tv deal.

People seem to be surprised at the size of the contract, though I'm not sure why. Last year Florida received $10M for its tier3 content, and other SEC schools make quite a bit of money as well. They don't have their own exclusive networks, but they certainy could, and I expect now, they probably will.

What I remember about the whole aTm to SEC controversy, was that Bill Byrne was not involved at all in the process. He was out west at a family reunion, while Chancellor McKinney and Regent Gene Stallings were the one's stirring up the SEC discussion.

ESPN deal or not, college football is getting out of hand. There has to be a playoff to keep everyone on somewhat of an even playing field and some form of ethics and fairness. I like the TV deal, I just don't see the big 12 staying together. In that case I think we should move to the big 10 and not the pac10 or as an independent. I would like to torment nu some more anyway. Whatever happens UT will be fine and I'm sure they are prepared for any scenario. I understand how UT has to take care of themselves because they have to as anyone can leave the conference and hurt it again.

First of all, I just can't get into all the Aggie hate you guys seems to have. They've been a good rival for a long time, and I hope it stays that way.

Second, exactly how does more money help? It might just get soaked up in supporting all the other sports, anyway, right? (Or is that what you are talking about?) Because, for football, once you have your stadium built, with all the amenities, such as practice fields, weight rooms, jumbotrons, etc., and once you pay your coaches, and assuming you can cover 85 scholarships, what else is available to spend? It seems like a sport with a salary cap, and A&M and OU and now OSU certainly have the ante for those basic things. Is

Is the theory exposure for recruiting? One game a year, when all our games were already on TV anyway? Notre Dame has the most exposure of anyone, and it doesn't help them.

I have to admit I have not looked into this AT ALL, and could be wrong, but it seems like money for the athletic dept to spend on their salaries, and to build some volleyball palace with a jumbotron off in East Austin. (Unless they plan to lower ticket prices, which I doubt.)

    What am I missing?

byrne had nothing to do with the decision. the entire process was in the hands of the BOR and our president.

i'm sure byrne was asked for his input, but ultimately this was the decision of our BOR.

The Aggies have on 2 motivating factors that guide every action that they undertake.Pride for their program and spite for The University.

The SEC makes 17 million per program compared to the 20 million A&M has been guaranteed in the Big 12. The SEC would have to renegotiate another 56 million dollars per year out of ESPN to equal the big 12.

If you think that ESPN will renegotiate a contract that is already the highest in college sports and increase it from 204 million per year to 260 just for adding A&M, you have a serious case of retardation.

Conclusion, if by some miracle the SEC even allowed A&M to join, the SEC would lose money. End result Aggie motivation is not for pride but rather spite...
