Do you have any favorite routines? Little things you do regularly that make for happy moments. First thing in the morning, before the kids are up, I like to go to my office upstairs with a large cup of coffee, and a spare cup in a thermal travel mug. The spare is so I can have the extra coffee without going down to the kitchen for a refill. One cup will not do and my routine does not permit interruptions. Sit in my quiet office (I work from home so I don't have to prepare for a commute), sip coffee, fire up some streaming music, go online to check the markets, browse HornFans and a few other favorite sites, maybe answer some emails or buy stuff I don't need from Amazon. I love the relative peace and solitude of the early morning before my kids wake up and start breaking ****. What's your favorite routine? Something that doesn't involve touching your junk, please.
The wife leaves for work balls early, so I get to wake up my little guys every morning and get em dressed and drive them to school. It's total chaos, but I love every second.
i watch an episode of dexter or friday night lights every night in my bed on my phone. i wake up at 11 and look forward to lunch around 1 when i watch snl reruns, espn, soprano reruns, or whatevers on and eat a breakfast sandwich, cheez its, and a coke. thats the highlight of my day, really, thats about all i have to look foward to each and every day
Wow Dionysus, you and I must lead identical lives, except I make the trip to the kitchen for the coffee refills and my office is downstairs, other than that though my post would have been identical to yours.
For much of my adult life one of my favorite things was to get up early, drink coffee, and read the morning newspaper. I still get up early and drink coffee but now all my news reading is done on the internet.
Working the crossword and cryptoquote in our daily paper. The day doesn't feel complete if I don't get to do them.
Sunday. Wake up at 830, go get my coffee and 2 breakfast tacos, make it back for the 1st half hour of Fox News Sunday. At 930 I flip over to Meet the Press. 1030-1200 is a nap. Football, laundry and ironing fill my afternoon. Sunday night, I order my same wing order from wingstop and make it back to my couch for Faith Hill to welcome me to Sunday night football. then night night.
I wake up week days at 4:00 am so I can have time to myself before I leave for work at 7:00 am. Same routine every morning. Make coffee, watch whatever shows I have recorded, jog with the dog and shower. I have been doing it for 30 years now (not the same dog).
Getting to the office early, well before anyone else, and go through my emails, check hornfans, some political and sports related sites and then start my day. Then like tonight, get my laptop and bourbon, go to the hot tub and do the same thing all over again.
When we were putting the pool in our backyard, we didn't have a fence up, so I had to take our dog for a walk every morning to let him do his nature call. The fence has been up for a long time, but the dog got used to being walked every morning. He now comes to my side of the bed to let me know it's time to go if I haven't grabbed him by 6;30 or so...I enjoy the walks even when it's ball shrinking cold as it has been a few times in the last couple of weeks.
I also stop at Cafe Java for large coffee every day on the way to work. It almost feels like I'm Norm from Cheers when I walk in....they most times see me pulling up and have my coffee ready for me when I open the door.
Before I retired, on weekend mid mornings I'd always go to the coffee shop and drink coffee and read professional books. Now that I'm retired I still go the the coffee shop every morning but I read non-professional books. Right now I'm reading Life by Keith Richards which was a Christmas present.
OldHippie: that reminds me, when I was at UT someone once told me that if I ever feel like I've been partying too much, just remember that Keith Richards is still alive.
I have a dear friend that's a struggling single mom. Every morning at 6:45 sharp I go to Starbucks (where I too get the "norm" treatment) and get my tall Americano and her Grande Skinny Carmel Macchiatto. I then drive the two blocks to her office and meet her as she shows up for work to give her the coffee and chat for two minutes in the parking lot. It's two minutes, but it's two minutes that we both look forward to and enjoy. I wouldn't take a million dollars for it.
Sunday Morning...waking up to watch This Week and Meet the Press and usually breakfast in bed delivered by my sons.
I don't really have any little routines that I like to speak of, but just reading what Dionysus likes makes me feel all fuzzy inside.
Always get up in the morning at the same time and read the newspaper and have my breakfast at the dining room table. Then I walk my daughter out to her car and give a hug goodbye before she heads off to school. She's graduating next month and heading to UT in the fall, and I'll be an empty nester. I don't know what I'll do not having her to walk out each morning, but I couldn't be happier knowing that she'll be on the 40 acres this fall.
