Did anyone here think back in the 09' recruiting class that Gilbert should have been the #1 rated QB prospect over Matt Barkley? I did [IMG]

I still have faith in GG.
Lets see what he can do with new coaches and new talent.

I have no doubt that GG will get the start in the Rice game. Let's hope that if he plays like he did last year, Mack won't hesitate to give someone else a shot.

I have little faith in Gilbert.

But then, I had little faith in Randy McEachern coming off the bench as 3rd string QB when we were down against OU.

I don't care about Heismans. I just want our QB to throw over 25 TDs and less than 7 INTs. Be efficient, get the ball in the hands of the playmakers, and be a leader.

I expect big things from Gilbert this year. He will not be set up for failure this year and he will be in a system where he only shoulders part of the load. I really want the kid to succeed in the worst way and now that he has all the tools to do it....the rest is up to him. [IMG]

I'm still trying to understand how a guy who impressed me more in summer practice last year than any QB I have seen on campus gave the worst season performance of any QB I have seen since at least as far back as 1988.

The one constant I have seen to outweigh all the strengths is slow reaction time in the pocket. Case seemed to make quicker decisions in the spring game.

Why does everyone on this thread believe GG will be the starter?
    Has it been announced?

He'll be the starter because the coaches don't necessarily believe he is actually terrible because they have watched last year's game films over and over and have seen DL and blitzing LBs immediately in his face over and over and over and over so they can't judge whether his terrible was more terrible than anyone else's terrible would have been in that situation. Colt didn't look too great and had poor #s in 2006 and that OL looked All-Pro compared to what we had in 2010.

I'm not saying is is great, but I am saying "Who knows"....

He is going to have to show me he can succeed. Being a 5 star buys you very little patience with me if you are not playing well.

    Show me the money!

Some of these responses are very Aggieish. Why don't you just say I hope he does better than he has or maybe they'll try someone else which is exactly where they are.

My analysis of GG performance is clear cut because the camera doesn't lie. Can he be good... Yes. Can he be one of the greats.... Yes. Will he? I don't know. I am keeping an open mind in regards to his success. I hope for the horns sake and my sanity that he comes out and just kills it. The season hasn't begun yet and it is a new season after all. Lets see what the kid does in the opener agains sub par talent and then we can judge. Many have to admit we were wrong if the kid comes out and blazes it and wins. Then the posts might change to "I knew the kid could do it"

    Thanks Snow Leopard,

I saw the typo and couldn't get down through the subsequent posts fast enough when I saw your post that said it. Yes, his 2nd year - 2007 was the dropoff at OL and his #s followed. He was the frosh phenon in 06 and then suddenly and mysteriously lost most of that talent and then it miraculously all came back.

Having even a little time to actually look down field to read the defense and find your WR does wonders for QB stats. Being knocked silly repeatedly seems to have the opposite affect.
