After five years it will finally come time to replace our 52" JVC DLP TV sometime this fall. I will probably be going LED, at least 52".

My TV has been great, but above all the audio out of it has been amazing. It has a very rich bass response and people have asked me where I've hidden my sound system before. They're amazed when I tell them that they're listening to the built-in speakers.

My biggest concern about going to a flat-panel TV is, are speakers on an LCD/LED as good as those on a DLP? I know the speakers have to be smaller to fit in the smaller/thinner enclosure so that is why I ask. What brands/models should I look at for the best built-in audio quality? I really don't want to buy any extra speakers if I can avoid it.

If you are going to stay the same size and like the current speaker system, why not just change out the DLP bulb and save the money?

I said at least 52" (probably 60") and I want to reclaim some floor space and go wall-mount.

OK, got it. If you want pretty good sound without a bunch of speakers, consider a sound bar and subwoofer combo. It will give you much better sound than the standard TV speakers (although not as good as a full surround sound system). Several TV's have them already built in. Mitsubishi's is pretty good and it tries to replicate "surround sound" as much as possible. Otherwise, you can just get the TV you want and just add the soundbar/sub separately.

Thanks for the input, but Mitsubishi's TVs in that size are way above my price range. I guess I'll just get the TV I want and then get a sound bar if I need one.

We got the Samsung 55'' LED last year and love it. Seems like a really good brand.
