This has not changed in the 20 years I have been attending every home game, and it is worse since the last stadium expansion. Immediately after the games, one or more of the overprivileged people who park on the west side of the stadium tries to back out into the street that is jam packed with fans. It's bad enough when a passenger is at least trying to steer pedestrians away, but these idiots who just back up and run their bumper into people are pissing me off. I don't give a rat's *** how much you donate or how badly you think you need to leave, you have no right to commit vehicular assault on me or anyone else. A couple of years ago, one of these dopes got into a shouting match with the people he backed into. It was after a particularly bitter loss, and damn near resulted in a group of pumped up fans turning his SUV over with his wife and two kids inside. If you doubt that, then you have never been caught up in an angry mob scene. To those who politely remain parked and listen to the post game show while the crowd dissipates, I say thank you. To those like the one who backed into me last night, yes it was I who smacked the back window of the tank you were driving. Given something heavy enough, I would have smashed it and waited for you to step out. Trust me, there are enough people tired of your behavior that I would not have lacked help if needed. If you can't wait for the crowd to disperse, then don't be surprised if someone keys your vehicle or drags you out and beats the living hell out of you.

I think the people who park on san jac are just SOL with backing out right after the game, however I have noticed that the sidewalks on either side of the street are LESS crowded than the street itself.

Before you know it we'll have UTPD writing tickets to pedestrians for walking in the street instead of the sidewalk.

Back-in parking might alleviate some of the "incidents" but I doubt the entitled/old/cranky farts would be able to pull it off. After the game, you politely pull out forward into the street. Too easy.

Those parking spots should probably be eliminated for game day. There are just too many folks that have to walk on those streets. Our crowds are just too big now. It is amazing how much difference there is with 100K+.

I witnessed this behavior Saturday night. It was actually very dangerous...the driver was bound and determined to back up even though people were trying to tell him he was about to back into another vehicle along with the fans walking in the street. Here's your sign!

I was trying to get one guy backing out to stop. There were people directly behind and another SUV stopped, was a near disaster. He didn't seem too concerned. He will If he hits someone, even slightly.

So it is ok to j-walk?

Why can't people stop and wait 10 seconds for this guy to back out?

So am I to understand that the people who are walking down the street cannot see that the car is attempting to back up. Hint: that's what the activated white lights on the back of a vehicle signal. I walk down the street, and have never had a problem getting out of the way of someone backing up.

I notice that none of the comments address the fact that these "entitled ones" PAID for the priviledge of parking in these spots. But almost all of the comments focus on these persons perceived sense of "over-entitlement." Quit being such a loser wannabee and show a moderate level of courtesy by getting out of their way. If you are so jealous, this is America. Get out and make the cash, pay for your spot, and join the "entitled ones." Me, I will just keep moving to the side as I walk to Double-Dave's and show the people in the autos a reasonable level of courtesy.

people who park right outside DKR and think they can make a quick exit are not being reasonable.

ummmm duh, is my sarcasm meter broken. The point was the venom and hatred this guy was spewing about this guy when he is just trying to back up on a street and he is being called out, why the hate? Why can't people pay attention to where they are walking and realize this guy wants to hurry up and back out and go no where?

Legally, as long as he doesn't hit anyone, he has the right of way and if people were courteous, instead of a mob mentality, they would allow him to back up. Group think Group think screw this guy because he has more money than me.

He shouldn't have the right of way. Having dozens of cars trying to exit from those spots in the middle of thousands of pedestrians is not reasonable, and neither is confining all gameday traffic to the sidewalks even when right by the stadium.

    San:

I don't disagree with you at all, but to be upset because another is an idiot and then to add onto that with some stupid comments makes me feel stupid for commenting on the guys stupidity.

Somehow I just talked in a circle oh never mind.....Watch out for moving cars!

Go ahead and (carefully) let one of those people hit you. The San Jac street parking right there is for the west side suite holders. They have plenty of money and insurance. [IMG]

My sweet wife and I wait to leave the stadium untill tha band departs, partly for this reason. The exiting mob really develops after a close game. If UT looses, for shame, it can be a large moody and angry group. The cars backing out on that street is just a match to a ripe crispy field. (with all respect and sorrow for the Bastrp situation) I agree that those parking there should not be expecting to leave early. If that is their intention, maybe they ought to use the influence to get a spot at the garage on the other side of the stadium. From the cheap seats in the upper deck, I can see their is still plenty of space on top over there. It is noot that much further.

If they want to enjoy the privilage, than they need to respect the pedesterians. With Rights, given or purchased, coes responsibility.

I am a bit disabled, a bit slow, a bit awkward in my walk, a bit slow to respond to quick changes in my walking path, Please do not hit me.

I personally would not park my nice car in that area, too many jack wagons that are not respectful enough, brush up against the car with buttons on their pants or leave empty beer cans under the wheels etc.

Now after saying that if the University can get a premium for those spots more power to them, make as much money as you can.

If you can't see a moving car or anticipate where one could be and you blindly follow the person too closely in front of you then you deserve to be hit.

I know when I walk down that street, my stroll is slow and relaxed and dozens of jackasses are always zig zagging in and out of in front of me and have run little ones over a number of times. Those people need to be pummelled!!!!! Talk about rude jackasses!!!!

Does a car backing out of a parking space have the right of way over pedestrians (or other vehicles)? I would answer "No"

2222Horn hits it the theme of this thread directly on its nailhead! What are my rights! I want my rights!!! Waa, waa, waa!!!

Forget about your rights. Being courteous is about temporarily giving up your rights to create a more harmoneous society. Try it, you might find your life filled with less stress.

2222 you bring up an interesting point the pedestrian always has the right of way but they are Jay Walking. We would need a traffic officer to answer this question for us.

I think you would have to prove who hit who. If they were both moving toward each other would be the question. If a pedestrian walks into the side of the car,not car's fault, if person is standing still and car hits them, car's fault. If they are both moving toward each other, regardsless of what is behind the pedestrian, who is at fault?
