I've been trolling over there and saw that as well. They are in major meltdown mode right now: "We don't deserve the SEC. We're going to be a doormat in the SEC. We had a lot of recruits at the game today. Sherman sucks. Why didn't we run the damn ball more? Did you see all the 2 percenter students leave before the end of the game?" Blah blah blah! It is very entertaining stuff; especially if you just read and don't post. They don't even need stoking tonight.
That opening post is a hard read. I've tried to paragraph it and break it up a bit. Try this if it helps. Very impressive read. I was around the SWC at that time. He's the real deal. Knows what he is talking about. I have a lot of respect for him. I'd share a beer with him at Sholtz's on a game day. (I have to say I don't remember the fuss over that 1963 game but then I was just a fan of the other side, and was a long time ago.) In reply to:
Check out this post by Greasepitag: i posted this last year before i quit my job and got my life stait look at how angry I was from last year i was seeing the game the other day and it just dont feel like Texas A&M football no more. My wife dont watch with me and hell whe used to not try to take her shirt off while watching back in the day and now she dont watch. Damn kids too busy selling candy bars for base ball and aint watching us either. Back years ago when I was first on this board I used to look forward to our games my teeth would hurt. Id tell my other team fans friends whut you know bout that A&M and theyd have no response now I be scared to even bring it up becuase I my ags have saddened me. Grandpa kicked me out of his house about 8 years ago and died shirtly after and he didnt go to A&M but damnit if he didnt root and give them all he had every saturday and one thirsday a year and all I call thank is that he is spinning in his grave so fast he half way to china by now and he fuaght in the korean war so thats not good for him. C"MON AGS WE NEED TO GET THIS THING THAT WE ALL LOVE FIGURED OUT AND TURNED AROUND FOR OUR KIDDOE"S SAKE. Football is my life and i aint living good since my 401k tanked all I got is Texas Aggie football. Whos with me oh and the wife left me part due to losin my job but it was also 3 days after my birhtday. Im doin better and keep it possiative and good thigs will happen to me and you which makes them good things happne to both us and we both win win.
This guy is an anachronistic throwback to the old times when A&M was an all male, white school and everyone had to be in the Corps. I predict there will come a time when the last real Aggie (i.e. graduated before 1970) will pass away and A&M will wake up and say, "What are we doing with these dumb milkmen? We're not a military school, we have an ROTC program like other schools. Why is our image being held hostage by a fraternity with a bunch of asinine traditions?" Only then will the sheep be safe.
Sounds like the tradition was never properly explained to Mr. Byrne. Which makes sense, because no one on the outside understands why aggy acts like they do, and aggy on the inside is not capable of explaining it.
Question In the OP the ag speaks of planning for Eighteen months to get into the SEC. did this ag misspeak too?
I thought that was pretty funny too. Interesting how far removed from reality a person can get himself and still have the ability to judge others.
That may be the biggest argument the Aggies bring that pisses me off the most. They claim that the reason they were so down in football during the war years was that they sent so many to fight. As if no one else from any university in the country sent students to war. They also ignore the fact that Army won national championships in 1944, 1945, and 1946, the height of the war.
