With the QB play I have seen this year, how bad was Wood to be fourth string?

Seriously, when was the last time we had two years of such terrible QB play?

We win today with even average QB play.

yep, really makes you wonder how do these guys end up on the campus as QBs?

How did UT get to a point where it has not one QB that is even half adequate?

Could not agree more - QB for this team is just bad. We can't win against quality competition with this kind of play behind center. The forward pass is simply not a consistently viable option right now.

This has been a consistent problem with Mack since he got to Tx. He has not been able to keep qulaity backup qb's and it has cost us dearly. I think it cost us a national championship the year after Vince left. Colt did well but a more experienced qb might have been the difference in winning it all. Also, when colt went down against Bama we could have really used an experienced backup.

At this point, with a decent running game (when the top RBs are healthy), GG would almost certainly be better than what we have now. Not that he was the long term answer, but with a balanced attack to take pressure off the pass, I suspect we'd have a better passing game. It would be hard to be much worse.

I, like most others, am disappointed with our QB performance but remember a few things:

Ash is a true freshman and McCoy is an inexperienced true sophomore (a wasted freshman year did not help). They will improve but not as fast as we would all like.

They have only been under current coaches for 10 months with a completely new offense and little experience anywhere on offense. Next year will tell the tale.

No one expected Gilbert to perform at the level that he did. I don't know the reason but I am surprised. He had the physical skills. He may still develop into a good QB.... at SMU.

Had G. J. Kinne not transferred to Tulsa back in 2008, where he is tearing things up, we might have an experienced senior QB at the helm. He left for more playing time because he was behind a guy named Colt McCoy. Can't blame him for wanting to play.

Until we fix our horrible pass protection, we will not know what we truely have at QB. I have seen Ash and McCoy every snap and I have yet to see them have plenty of time to throw this year. Because they are not getting protection, they are having to get rid of the ball quickly which will hurt passing accuracy. Then against Missouri the wind was horrible. You see much better QB'ing if they get some protection.

Horns would have had a better chance sat with GG at qb.

Mack should go JUCO to find either a serviceable experienced QB, or at least a back up. Next year we can have Gray fill the role of Fozzy and have 2 powerful backs. We get a QB like OU did in 00 or even close and we're right there.

I put some of the blame on play calling against Mizzou. Yes, I know neither QB showed us much, the O-Line wasn't solid, teh wind was blowing, etc...

But, in the 2nd half, Harsin seemed content to let theme put 8 in the box and it seems like on every 2nd hals series we ran Hills up the middle on 1st and 2nd, Passed on 3rd. I guess Harsin was hoping that eventually Ash would connect on the down field pass and get us back in the game.

I thought we would see more creativity. Short passes, Ash completed a couple passes rolling out. Just anything except EXACTLY WHAT THEY EXPECTED.

He was inconsistent day to day. There were several days when I wondered if he could have hit the broad side of a barn. Never understood that recruitment. It was like we saw that OU was interested, so we offered.

I think the receivers he's talking about aren't on campus yet.

I haven't seen a bunch of mechanics issues with Ash although I am no expert by any means. What I see time and again, especially compared to better and more experienced QBs is how much time it takes to decide where to throw. This was a problem with GG as well. With inexperienced or inadequate line play, you need quick passes and receivers that can get open right off the line.

gdu are you talking about GG or Wood?
GG committed to you guys fairly early on if I remember correctly.
I know we wanted Wood in a serious way when he committed to you guys. That's the point when we put a lot of pressure on Bell to commit.

Wood. I heard about OU's interest inhim well before I heard Texas was interested. Same with DJ Grant.
