If RGIII does not declare for the NFL it would be a big mistake. The Alamo bowl is bringing in temporary seats. I just do not think Baylor vs Washington would have sold out but the Heisman sure has caused a scramble for tickets. I purchased tickets thinking we would beat Baylor. Guess I get to see RG play his last colllege game.
He is gone. He already has his degree, he lost a year to injury once before and he will never have better hype than now. Only reason to come back is to win an NC and even the most die hard BU fan would admit that is a pipe dream so go pro and cash in young man.
I agree he should go pro because of the money. If Baylor had a chance for an NC I could almost see him staying but that is unrealistic even though the Bears could have a top ten team. That is why (if they got injury insurance of course) I could see Andrew Luck staying at Staford an extra year and the same with Sam Bradford at OU and Tim Tebow at Florida. It is selfish but I sometimes wish VY had stayed at UT in 2006.
Call me silly, but the man is completing his Master's and wants a PHD. Long term he'll make more money outside of football. He can get another year paid for. I think it's 50/50 or better that he stays.
Who is coming out next year? Is he sure he would be drafted before Andrew Luck and what's his face from Southern Cal? There was discussion on the radio about this from an NFL "insider" or scout type who put this forth. Barring injury his stock would go up provided that he did not flat out collapse in his numbers. His combine, interviews and tests would be great and with less competition. That one year away could translate into a much higher draft pick, up front money and as mentioned above he would be one year further in his studies. Those seem to be important to him. I can see it going either way and would understand either decision as they both have merit. Question is, to what extent does each scenario have to him?
Long term he'll make more money outside of football. __________________________________________ well, i'm not math genius or anything but i know quite a few doctors that make just over 150k a year after all of their expenses, insurance, etc.are paid for....RG III can pull in 10 million signing bonus and a another 30 million contract for being a top 10 pick so i think he is better off playing football.
Like someone said above, just the guaranteed money alone from his initial deal will be huge. Throw in how much Madison Avenue is going to love this kid and he will make a ton of ancillary dollars. And a top flight QB making it to his second contract will be 20-40 mil guaranteed and a bunch more if he hits certain attainable markers. No way can he make that kind of money in the "real" world and that's no knock on his smarts. He has the chance to be a Magic Johnson type... talented, likeable and charming.
He'll probably make more money off the RG3 action figure complete with cape, than he ever could outside of football.
Is he a lottery pick? The signing bonus goes down a good amount after the first couple of picks. Isn't he the third qb forecast to be drafted?
I haven't really seen anybody that ranks him above Luck or Barkley, but I think he's still universally considered a 1st rd pick. With little chance of a National Championship run, I don't know how much he'll be able to improve his stock next year. He might as well leave now, bank his money and then get his PHD afterward. I believe he's going to earn his masters this Dec, so it's not like he'll have much more schooling once his playing career is over anyway.
There's no lottery in the NFL but he's projected in the top 10 by most and top 5 by many. With Cam Newton's success, some teams will rate him higher than Luck and/or Barkley. Plus, he's going to wow them at the combine.
As a Redskins fan I like the second one! What is the difference in signing bonus between the top 3 and lesser picks? If he is a top ten pick he really does need to go. I am just saying that I have heard people whose job it is to predict things say he is a late round pick. There is so much more to happen such as the combine and interviews and I think he crushes them. We just have to see. If he is to be a late round pick it won't shock me to see him stay. He could make up what he loses this year and then some with a higher signing bonus and contract. Just saying. I don't envy his decision.

What's a year of your life worth? A chance to be the BMOC for one more year, continue education, and have a blast. The life of an NFL QB is work, we all would love to do that job, but that is what it is, a job. Huge pressure to win now. Why not go back? The money will still be there in 2013. Maybe #1 overall. I wonder if you were to ask VY in private if he could do it all over again what would he say? Remember who was #1 the year after VY left? Jamarcus Russell
There's also talk about the Olympics. He's supposed to have a legitimate shot to make the Olympic team as a hurdler but would require a year of training minimum. RG is a smart kid. The kind of smart that might allow him to do something that none of us would expect. Obviously most of us would take the NFL money and run but RG definately ain't most of us. I certainly would not say that playing for another year or even going for the Olympic team would be out of the question for this kid. God, would he be looking good right now having wore the Burnt Orange?!? Sigh.
Would he have wanted to sit a couple years behind Colt or at all or did he want to start right away? Did he want to go to a place to start right away and let him play qb? I am curious about that too. I like to think more about the kids we did get rather than may or may not have missed out on for whatever reason.
After what happened to Sam Bradford when he came back for one more season, RGIII would be better off getting the best deal now. Stay for no pay and get hurt could lower his draft status or worse, end his career for good. Take the money kid!!
And what happened to Bradford in relation to his draft stock? Name the last collegiate player you remember having a career ending injury that was a supposed 1st round pick the year before the injury. The second contract argument, in my opinion, is not valid as to whether he should return or not. I think you could make an argument that leaving too early costs more players a big second contract. Also, let's not get caught up in pre-draft rankings of these guys and discuss how they fell because they stayed a year longer. Much of the fall is because the true evaluation begins after it is known the player is officially in the draft. You can use Leinart as your example of how a guy falls, and I would argue that many teams simply were not thrilled with his skill set. Griffin will likely get his money whether he comes out or not. From an achievement standpoint, which would seem important to him, is he better served by returning and enhancing his skills or is he ready to be thrown to the fire now? He can make more money long term by staying another year. But he also could make money leaving now. Absolutely no way to know which is more likely. If you knew in advance you would be Payton Manning or Ryan Leaf in the NFL, which would you choose? You could suck like Leaf with a poor legacy but get your money or you could be one of the greatest of all time and get your money. In my opinion, the simple minded answer is take the Ryan Leaf option because there is a little less risk from a monetary standpoint. The Manning option is not necessarily the wrong option but maybe the one that gives you the greatest opportunity for the most achievement. At this point, I would say RGIII is more akin to VY than Manning. He could show a little more in the 4th quarter. He can work on his intermediate game. He can work on clock management. He can achieve when the pressure is on - against us at home was the most pressure he had. He should be Manning and come back.
Again, what is a year of your life worth? A chance to be the BMOC, live the life of a legend, get better, have the game slow down, and truly enjoy your youth. You have the rest of your life to have a "job" enjoy school.
Who do they return on offense? He'll have a shot at winning a 2nd Heisman. Although because of the "Don't want the same guy to win it twice" backlash, he'd probably have to improve on this season's performance and Baylor would probably have to improve as well, which would mean somehow acquiring a defense.
