I've been trying to forget everything from 2010, but wasn't one of the rumors that WM and GD didn't get along? If this is true, it would refute that rumor.
Yes. If this story has any basis at all, and is not just pure uninformed guesswork by the writer, we would have to recalibrate almost everything we know about what caused the 2010 troubles. R.J.
What did we think was wrong with 2010? I always thought it was pretty clear that the offense sucked because: a) QB b) lack of running game c) receivers were awful. Each of these pieces made the others even worse. I thought the defense was horrible because: a) the offense was horrendous.
That's all true, but how all those things fed each other and caused disaster, had something to do with how people dealt with adversity. That team last year had problems, but you can't tell me that it was a 5-7 team - seeing how many people in there were part of a 32-2 run before the 2-7 disaster. People have kept saying (or tried to make themselves believe) that it was all from lack of talent, from talent-evaluation mistakes, from poor game-plans and play-calling, from lazy coaching/training, etc .... But 32-2 to 2-7 does not happen for just such reasons. Quite improbable. Reportedly, the equations between Muschamp and GD had something to do with it too. R.J.
Word was there were rifts between the younger coaches and those who were with Mack from the beginning. Also, McWhorter's ole blocking style didn't mesh with Greg Davis' offense. Speaking of the Greg Davis offense, it was fundamentally dysfunctional.
Now that I think about it more, maybe the rumor was WM wasn't onboard with Mad Dog. Which from what I've heard, I was happier about our SC coaching change than any other change, with maybe OL coach change second.
I heard it was a Triad Love-Hate relationship between Muschamp-Applewhite and Davis. Not really how the Triad worked but it looked very similar to the play design above.
