BREAKING: Rush Limbaugh Syndicator Suspends National Ads For Two Weeks

By Judd Legum on Mar 12, 2012 at 9:24 pm

Radio-Info.com reports that Premiere Networks, which syndicates the Rush Limbaugh show, told its affiliate radio stations that they are suspending national advertising for two weeks. Rush Limbaugh is normally provided to afflilates for free in return for running several minutes of national advertisements provided by Premiere each hour. These ads called “barter spots.” These spots are how Premiere makes its money off of Rush Limbaugh and other shows it syndicates.

But without explanation, Premiere has supended these national advertisements for two weeks. Radio-Info.com calls the move “unusual.” The development suggests that Rush Limbaugh’s incessant sexist attacks on Sandra Fluke have caused severe damage to the show.

    From the memo:

Attention Traffic Managers of Premiere News/Talk Affiliates:

We are suspending the requirement to run barter spots for two weeks, March 12th and March 19th, for our News/Talk affiliates only.

Please replace/re-traffic any Premiere barter spots immediately. Contractual requirements to run barter spots are being suspended for these two weeks only. Replace them with Lifelock and Lear Financial or a local spot of your choice.

Earlier today, ThinkProgress exclusively reported that 140 advertisers, including dozens of major national corporations, had requested their ads no longer air on Rush Limbaugh. Lifelock and Lear Financial among the only companies standing by Limbaugh.

Over the last several days much of the advertising time during the Rush Limbaugh show on his flagship station, WABC, has been filled with free public service announcements.

    Oh...Jeebus...

You do realize that almost all the companies being told to not air on his show are just being given a reminder to to do that...because they haven't been airing there earlier?

Hell, one of the idiotic things I saw earlier was that there was several minutes of silence during breaks...of course, they were monitoring the Internet broadcast which doesn't play ads during that time...

Straws...I've heard they're fun to grasp...

BTW, I don't listen to Rush...I used to listen to NPR, but now I listen to POTUS on Sirius...it's as balanced as NPR...but, since I have a free year of Sirius, I'll listen...

    Also:
"ThinkProgress has obtained an internal memo from Premiere Radio Networks listing 96 national companies that have “specifically asked” their advertisments not be played during the Rush Limbaugh Show. Premiere is the distributor of Limbaugh’s program. The advertisers have also requested to be excluded from other right-wing hosts including Michael Savage, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity.
According to the memo, the listed companies’ advertisements should be excluded from these programs because they have been “deemed to be offensive.”

I'll bet those 3 ******** are real proud of the fat man.

I've got to admit that I'm surprised to see so many of you rushing to defend the millionaire misogynist.

I notice the U.S. Army is one of the advertisers pulling ads.

This isn't a 1st Ammendment issue. Everyone has a right to listen or not listen; boycott or not boycott.

It is; however, extremely hypocritical that the Left suddenly feigns outrage specifically because of whom said it. I mean, it's one thing to attack a public figure like Sarah Palin because of her politics but there were several people going after her family and children and intelligence. To me, that's far worse than using the "slut" reference on a woman that has personally admitted promiscuity.

The big problem I see with this is that it will shut down speech (not 1st Ammendment speech). Public figures will be afraid of stating the wrong thing lest they lose their livelihoods. There are things that I seen Bill Maher say that make me want to punch him in the face; however, he has every right to say it.

I do find it comical that we're not supposed to judge a woman that executes her unborn child but we're supposed to go ballistic if a man uses one adjective to describe a woman - who by her own words - fits the description.

Haha-according to our exalted Supreme Court, dollars=free speech. The right to boycott offensive businesses, individuals or media is free speech. Where to spend money is free speech, get it? At least, that was OK with the conservatives when it applied to the wealthy hand-picking politicians. Now suddenly it isn't alright when it applies to spending money on chosen media outlets? That's hypocricy at its finest.

Here is a look into the future.

This controversy will be forgotten as we move on to other items.

    The advertisers will notice this.

They will also notice Limbaugh's audience has not changed too much

They will start running their ads again.

The advertisers aren't suspending ads because they agree with liberal outrage. They are suspending ads because they know they most people really aren't serious in their outrage over this event and have short attention spans and will eventually forget what they were so pissed off about.

Keep talking, in one month all of these advertisers will be back and another 500 of them on top of it......keep talking this happens all the time in the advertising world. The company feigns like it is on some moral high ground then quietly goes back into the fold. Rush's ratings are still head and shoulders above anything else and you are doing nothing but helping him increase those ratings. His Ratings have spiked to all time highs the past few weeks.

As typical the libs have no clue as to what they are saying.....

Those advertisors that are feigning outrage, are going to be paying more in the next 6 months then they have ever paid.

How sad that you can't see that.

Many of you on this thread and on the other long one abt RL try to compare Libs' - and others - outrage over his remarks to the lack of same over the Dixie Chicks' abt GWB. No comparison. Natalie Maines' one comment in front of a few thousand people at a concert doesn't come close to RL's 3-day rant abt Fluke on a nationwide program to 18 million (est.) true believers. The DCs' have no more influence on Democratic politics than their equivalent opposites Toby Keith or Ted Nugent to Republicans. It must be hard to realize that a talking head on whose words you've hung on to for years is really a misogynistic jerk.

His former 140+ sponsors realize it now and don't want any further association with him. For a bunch of free-marketeers - "Let the market work!" - to suddenly complain abt companies listening to their larger customer base of non-RL listeners / believers by saying / promising / threatening to not buy their products is hypocrisy. This IS the market at work. No "strong arming" there, just good business sense.

He shot himself in the *** on this. It'll be awhile before this is forgiven and forgotten. But he has millions, maybe he can hang on; or maybe someone can start passing the hat for the poor man.

So as I understand it now, it's only misogynistic if it's against someone who's not currently holding office? Or someone who doesn't fit your description of a public figure? But if it's a private citizen who inserts himself or herself into the public discourse, they're off-limits.

So in other words, if a citizen happened to criticize Obama, and the media started digging into his past, ridiculing him, discrediting him, all that stuff... we'd consider that wrong, right? Because he's a private citizen. And if it's a public figure and female, we can call her anything we want, and that doesn't make us misogynistic at all. Do I have that right so far?

And if I'm an entertainer, that goes double, because at that point, anything is fair game. I should be able to insult minorities too, right? And I can do it with whatever language I want, no matter how vulgar, course or offensive. No one should have an issue with that because after all, I'm an entertainer!

The fact is you guys only care about this when it's a conservative figure making the remarks. Liberals can issue death threats, wish vile and disfiguring diseases on someone, call them every name in the book, and you won't bat an eye. All it gets from the left is the obligatory "well, we know it happens on both sides" (and yet we only talk about the ONE side...) and occasionally it might even cause some of the more conscienscious of you to be a little embarrassed.

I admit I am surprised at the number of sponsors speaking out about this deal. More than I would have thought.

I agree with others that Rush will be going as strong as ever in a few months.

Side note, I actually listened to about an hour of Michael Savage the other day. Wow does his show suck. Nothing but a ton of commercials and him acting indignant.

So at what point does Sandra Fluke become a public figure? She was an advocate who spoke publically and gave speeches on the subject before she testified. She was hand-picked by the Dems as an "expert witness" and testified before Congress of her own free will - and at this point she's still not considered open to criticism.

Now that she's being booked on news shows, talk shows and becoming more and more an acknowledged face of this issue, at what point do we get to talk about her radical history and views on forced payment for transgender surgery? At what point do we get to question her views and agenda? I assume we're not allowed to do that, since no one in the media is doing it and I can't imagine why they wouldn't if it wasn't out of respect for her status as a "private citizen".

And at what point do we get to criticize liberals who are skipping the boycotts and claiming that Rush should simply be removed from the air? Is that OK since we've all agreed we think he's a jerk? And since we're trying to boycott anyway, we might as well just be honest and take the next step and finish the job ourselves, right?

I listened to Rush today from 11:15 to about noon. I heard ads from....

    Life Lock
    Progressive Insurance
A local transmission repair company (name didn't register)
    Tax Resolution Services
Two if by Tea (his own company)
    T-Mobile

Yeah, his days are probably numbered.

I can't listen to Limbaugh without puking, so thanks for that small list of sponsors that are airing ads on his show. Thankfully I do business with none of them.

Oh and the number of ads pulled is over 150 now.
