Since 2005 Mack has been paid around $35 – 40 MILLION. The University has been paid, what? A billion? Of course they support him. Of course he thinks we don’t know what we’re talking about. To me there are a couple of prime moments of arrogance that we have seen in the last year or two:

    1) The, “You know who your friends are comment.” Who among you is a friend? Last time I checked there are two sides to this arrangement. Those who pay and those who collect and those who collect only care that they collect.

    2) The campaign to demonize Time-Warner for refusing to bow down and pick up the LHN on terms that any smart businessman would reject. The University sold your loyalty to the program to ESPN and now that is where the relationship exists. I fully believe the University would sell the remaining schedule to ESPN to be aired solely on the LHN if they could get away with it. If you don’t believe it then you need to watch Scarface (Never underestimate another man’s greed).

I am really surprised by those who defend them. There is no explaining Texas_Taps but some of the others make me believe that insiders are planted on this board to hammer the nails back into the board.

So ask yourself this: Do you believe that Mack Brown is capable of fielding a team that week in and week out plays to the best of its ability? What does Mack Brown bring to the playing field? The telling moment this year of his “high-level” view was his note-taking during the ***-whipping by OU. It was as if he was a teacher watching the kids play on a playground and he was saying, “I’m gonna’ have to talk to them about this.”

I agree with you completely. I was hoping, really hoping, that Mack would step down this year, but to keep from getting too upset, I have changed my hope to the end of next year.

As much of a tradition it is to go to the Texas/ou game for me I don't plan to go next year. This year's game was too much anguish to possible have to witness in person again.

I also agree with bystander. There is no excuse for this mediocrity except for $$$$$.

    I agree.

There is not enough time left in Mack's career to set the ou record right, or to win the conference championships he was hired to win.

One way or another, he is (and we are ) at the end of his tenure. The most he can accomplish now is gather enough gold stars to make his own exit look good.

And that will cost us the addtional time and the money to find someone else and move on - which he will probably soon leave us doing anyway. It will also cost us a measure of the spirit we find continuing to diminish in support of his position as the head coach.

For me, and I think for most of us as I read things, it's over. When it's over, a certain wisdom requires saying so and moving on.

    Hook 'em all ...

I have always viewed Mack as a recruiter, leader and builder. I have never thought of him as a 'coach' per se. Just how I've grown to see him.

I disagree its about money. I think it's complacency/loyalty/laziness of typical overpaid management. Tow the line. Until the puppetmasters demand otherwise.

If it was purely about money he would already be spit out like a watermelon seed.

Yeah money has a lot to do with it. He may get one more year. May not.

Agree with the OP, but as to those who say it isn't about the money, then ask
Mack to donate 90% (or so) of his 2013 haul to the chemistry or accounting
departments (or pick another). It IS about the money, plus his ego, but it
damn sure isn't for the good of the Horns.

I graduated The University in 1971, great years to be a student with DKR coaching football and winning conference and national championships. Freddy had a chacne to win a NC in the Cotton Bowl but for a bad decision on a punt. The Horns went through the wilderness for a much too long.
Mack came onboard and turned around the program.
But Mack could only do so much, he's not a great coach, the Horns need a grat coach now. Considering the things I read from other sites, Mack has lost the players and a majority of the fans. Mack needs to retire now, he does not deserve another year for he will only foul up any chance the Horns have of using the talent on the team.
Mack is washed up, every day he spends trying to remain coach is a day he drags the program back to the dark years.

I thought all the position coaches were on salary too as well as that "new" S&C head coach ? No?

Good post that adds further depth and tie-in to what has
been echoed on this board since October (and honestly before then but not with this kind of momentum). Keep it up. All of us. It's working.

The sterilized term 'media speculation' that Powers threw out there while endorsing Mack Brown's job security as the head coach (more on that in a second and why Powers putting his name on this is a good thing for the overall health of the program just a little later..) is proof that progress is being forced. The media, always looking for a story, reads boards like this. Why wouldn't they? These boards are weathervanes for the state of the program. Belmont reads them too and if you think a thin skinned politician and hopeless approval seeker like Mack Brown (or a staffer at his behest) can't help themselves but to take a peek...I think you're wrong.

Powers wouldn't have addressed this if he weren't prompted. The **** storm building around Mack Brown should be the AD's job to dispell, right? That's what you pay him for. This is basic corporate protocol. Chain of command. My bet is that the heat has built up in Dodds' office to the point where he is running home to momma the same way Mack came running home to him. It's working. All of us. Keep it up.

Before the season, Deloss Dodds', performance as AD wasn't being questioned like it is today. Now, with 3 years of mediocrity in football ( at the top institute in one of the most talent rich states in the country, he is increasingly being questioned regarding our performance. He's feeling the heat and It's working. Keep it up.

    The emperors wear no clothes.

You can only try to sell pyrite as gold for as long as
you can keep your audience mis-informed. Mack Brown is adept at this as evidenced by the statements released by his superiors. They think they own gold. He was good at this for a while with the fans too, and continues to be with a shrinking minority of flat earthers among them, but the fact of the matter is that there are too many of us who see this for what it is and our numbers ensure that we're holding all the cards.

It's a fallacy to think that we can't affect change. We just flushed and even bigger worm out of his hole and made him pick a side and stand accountable for his retention of Mack Brown. Put a little water on the ship and all the rats come out. Keep it up. It's working. Powers' stance is the weakest form of sabre rattling there is if he actually means means what he says. His statements are a decree to those of us who expect excellence at a school that is in a position to manufacture it at any level we choose...to shut up. Quit thinking. Quit asking. Be content with what we tell you 'is'. Forget what you see on the field and forget that we are now in dogfights against programs we have historically beaten for decades. We define your standards and your reality and you'll buy it and you'll like it because you have no say. We'll tell you how to think about what you saw and you'll like and support it. Are you a friend or aren't you? Now shut and buy your tickets because if you don't you'll lose your place in line.

To this I say : f**k you. I see through you.

The fish rots from the head down. The ever changing landscape of college football these days ensures that pretenders and producers are identified quickly. Like it or not it is the land of 'what have you done for me lately?'. When you earn more in one year than most people will earn in a lifetime that's what comes with the territory. Why shouldn't it?

We are now third fiddle in the state of Texas and irrelevant in our own conference let alone nationally. Is that good enough for you? Are you satisfied? Do you believe what you're told to believe? I don't.

Demand more. Demand greatness. The emperors wear no clothes. Do you see it?

Bottom line: if Horns lose Alamo Bowl, we'll have lost the last three games of the 2012 season. That's NOT progress, Mack.

Losing record against conference opponents the last three years....NOT progress.

Potential, and probable loss (would not be surprised at all if it's another blowout) to ou next year. That would be 4 straight. NOT progress.

Tough to defend this record unless you are all about the money (current administration) or appreciate mediocrity as a fan. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

The attention of media and fans has turned away from UT to atm. How long this will last depends simply on winning or losing. Getting raped two years in a row by ou on national TV, while fielding middlin teams for three years running have conspired to reduce the Horns to irrlevancy in our conference championship race, and certainly nationally. The currency Vince and Colt gave us has faded dramatically.

If atm beats ou in the Cotton Bowl then they will elevate even more as the media darlings they've become ascending on Johnny Manziel's Heisman Star and Kevin Sumlin's recruiting success.

Money follows winners. atm getting kudos now (nationally) for their move to, and success in, the SEC, their high national rank, the stunning upset of Alabama, all bode well to position them to make a run to surpass UT.

TCU beating us further reduces our status. should tcu win again next year in Fort Worth, and there is no reason, based on the players and coaches returning to each program, to expect anything other than a toss-up, then we fade even further.

If the current trend continues for another year the momentum will be tough to turn.

You made a good argument about selling our loyalties, but you should have stopped there. To ask the question, "do you believe that Mack Brown is capable of fielding a team that week in and week out plays to the best of its ability"....the answer of course, is yes. He's done it before, what makes you think he can't do it again?

However......its time for him to go. Take a bow in 2013.

    Gecko,

He did it before" of course, yes." I say there are serious doubts because I think he has detached himself. Did you watch the OU game?
