To put it in another way, the trademark that Johnny Manziel, his family, and the school is trying to protect is not simply "Johnny Football" but it is the idea of the "person Johnny Manziel, football player, Heisman trophy winner, quarterback for Texas A&M, possibly future professional football player, dumb party boy, sports event scenester, twitter superstar, etc." All of these things and the rights to exploit them clearly belong only to Johnny Manziel, or only to anybody he grants rights or endorsements to use his image.

People are slapping "Johnny Football" on Tshirts to use Johnny Manziel's image (all of the things that I stated before that make up his image) to make themselves money without permission.

It is not simply a matter of "Who made up Johnny Football?" it more of a matter of "When you say Johnny Football does that mean Johnny Manziel? If so did you get permission?"
