How many wins to quiet the Nay Sayers? I would say 13.

How many wins to quiet most of the Nay Sayers? I would say 12.

How many wins for a successful season? I would say 11.

How many wins to keep his job for 2014? I would say 10.

How many wins to lose his job? I would say 9.

How many losses to lose his job mid-season? I would say if he gets to 6 losses, he will be fired immediately.

Two things are absolutely positively certain.

    1. Mack will not get fired
    2. Mack will not quiet the Nay Sayers even if he goes 13-0.

Probably just a few. He has Dodds and Powers and 100,000 paying customers
that will apparently keep paying regardless of the number of wins as long as
he tells the world that NEXT year it will be better.

He could win a dozen and the sayer's of the nay, will still be.
He could lose 8 and the pumpers of the sunshine, will still be.

    Deloss ain't firing nobody.

Mack's still a few million short of what he needs to buy that island off the coast of Alabama, so I expect him to hang around a couple of more years.

That could take longer if he helps finance any of Vince's birthday parties.

If he can't beat West Virginia and Oklahoma when both teams are reloading at quarterback, then it will be a disappointing season.

If you're not one of the top contenders to end up in BCS bowl at the end of the year with one of the more experienced offenses in the Big XII, then it's time to go home.

I agree with those who have said that he won't be fired whatever the record.

He wont be fired, but he will step down. An 11-12 win season and a BCS bowl, he goes out as having "rebuilt" the program. Lots of pats on the back and a gold watch. If ou drills us again, a couple of frustrating losses (TCU, WVU, OSU, bu) he decides he has had enough and walks away. Arguably the program is still in better shape than it was when he found it. Dodds takes his million $$$ bonus at the end of the year and goes back to Kansas.

Agree he won't be fired regardless, but if the season did crater and he loses 5-6 games he will "resign". I think this team MAY go 10-2. As previously stated probably go 1-1 vs. ou / tcu and lose to another team they shouldn't.

Zero. Mack will be the head coach until he decides to hang it up.

I think if the season craters he is gone before the season is over.

If he doesn't get to 10 wins, I would be surprised if he is the coach this time next year.

Beat Oklahoma or at least not let it turn into another Red River Massacre. That would make me happy.

Nay Sayers.... um that would be a MNC and nothing less... for that matter it he would have to win 3 out of 4 MNC like Saben to win the Nay Sayers.

Mack's best days were yesterday. It is time for new energy and leadership for Texas football.

I'm not a hater. Despite thinking Mack should have retired I think he's a good man and I'm very grateful for what he's done for Texas.
That being said I think it's almost comical to think we're beating OU next year.

The reason Mack could be fired in my opinion has nothing to do with how mediocre we will be again but that A&M has a legitimate shot at bringing home some hardware, maybe even the crystal ball. If we lose 5 and Aggy drops 1 and nabs a BCS or better, Mack is gone.

I don't think it's perennial mediocrity that will cause Mack to lose his job. It's A&M. They are a legitimate contender for the MNC and would have to be a favorite for a BCS appearance heading in to the season. They bring home some hardware, especially if it's of the crystal football variety, and we drop 4 or 5 Mack is gonzo.

IMO, from all I have read/heard from Mack the last 2 years, he's been looking forward to the 2013 and 2014 teams for a few years. It seems he has been pointing towards those years when his vast collection of young players should have grown up and developed.

    2013 = 2004 and 2008
    2014 = 2005 MNC win and 2009 MNC berth.

I believe he expects a very good 2013 team with a possible loss or two. Then in 2014 he will be MNC or bust.

That being said, anything short of a MNC win or losing record in 2013 and Mack will not walk away from the 2014 team he expects so much from.

On the flip side, fans are already on the edge and anything more than 3 losses will encite a revolt. [IMG] That and/or another uncompetitive OU loss.

2 or fewer losses and even if he misses BCS game, he'll return regardless of fan pressure. No way an 11-2 Mack Brown loses his job. I'd even say he'd have a 75% or > chance of coming back at 10-3. That would represent a 4th straight season of win increases.

Well Brad in Austin, your post is very depressing. I fully expect to have a new HC this December. Possibly a new HC, AD, BB coach, and possibly a new Baseball coach. That being said, mack has the tremendous ability of doing less with more. So even though the young talent has matured, doesnt necessarily mean they will live up to expectations. Lack of blocking, tackling, and imaginative coaching will offset any talent advantage we may have. Expect losses to OU, KSU, OSU, TCU, baylor, and either one of BYU and Ole Miss. WVU??? Not sure bout that one. [IMG] [IMG]

I am pessimistic for the up coming season. The offense appears to be ok, but its a new up-tempo system. I don't have much faith the D will be much improved.

Projected losses: OU in the annual Red River Blowout, K St., BU, TCU, OSU, BYU.

This looks like a 6-6 season. Unless they Horns' D is much improved, and or we can score 50+ pts per game to outlast some of the above opponents 6-6 is about it.

BYU is never easy at home, but it will be a good indication of how we do the rest of the season. I hope I am extremely wrong in my assessment.
