    2014 Mock Draft

Where has the talent gone at Texas? We used to have a couple 1st rounders on a yearly basis. Now hardly a soul. Are we recruiting the wrong kids, losing out on top recruits, or not developing the talent we do bring in?

Don't feel too bad...surprisingly, there is not even one player from the Big 12 on that list. Texas was a very young team last year with not a lot of upperclassmen. IF we begin to turn things around and start winning 9-10 games again, I think many of our current players will see a significant stock increase by the time they are juniors and seniors.

I think the aura of coddling and "Texas is like a big family" began to wear off on recruits around the time Alabama started pushing everyone's **** in. And now we're seeing the disastrous consequences of what happened from the 2010 offseason until now.

I still think we can have several dudes drafted highly.

Jeffcoat - barring injury, should be a first round pick. Might fall to second if he gets hurt or doesn't live up to expectations.

Davis - possible second rounder if he can be consistent and repeat the successes he had last year.

Walters - OG's can go higher in the draft with the new collective bargaining agreement because teams don't have to spend loads of money on high picks any longer. If the line can finally pull it together, Walters would be seen as an early-round commodity. I wouldn't say any better than 3rd round at the moment, but he could do something to impress.

Whaley - I know he won't get picked early, but with some Henry Melton type love and a solid year, I think he'll be a late round project and possibly do well in the NFL.

Diggs - I doubt he sticks around if he has a great year.

none of the underclassmen made a huge splash last year. If Jeffcoat was healthy, he'd be in 2014 mock drafts. That's the thing about doing a mock draft before the season has even started ... unless you were already charted high and stayed or are a spectacular underclassmen, you wouldn't appear in these +1 year mock drafts.

If Jeffcoat has a healthy and decent year, he'll be a 1-2nd rounder. Davis will not go in the first 2 rounds unless he goes for 1000 yards. I think Diggs could probably be the highest rated candidate for the draft.

A healthy Hicks could get picked early as well.

I call BS on this mock draft.

Zero picks from Texas is one thing. Zero picks from the Big XII is another. Zero picks from outside the power conferences is another. And he has two Clemson players in the top 5 based on their performance in the Chik-Fil-A Bowl.

Guy clearly just turned on the TV and clicked thru the college cable networks. Hell, if the LHN were available in his area, Texas would have five or ten more first-rounders.
