I wish I could say I'm surprised a few of you were ready to bail on this team before halftime of the first game of the season.

Certainly not bailing on the team. Was a good first game win. Now the defense has to play better quickly. Byu will be quantum leaps better than NMS. Diaz gave up over 300 yards to a very bad team. Held them to seven, very good. But BYU, and ole miss will score plenty if the D doesn't improve. Better get set and in position fast by the time ole miss rolls into town.

I'm not too worried about the offense. We will get our points. But we must not get in scoring contests again this year. Defense has to get it done. [IMG]

OK ... who else was getting nervous about the time spent on the 63 Team's being on the field when the officials were ready to play?

I think it was a little unfair to rush the tribute in the middle of play rather than spend several minutes in pregame or half-time.

Overall ... WAY too many (commercial) side-show-bobs. waiting for commercials is bad enough. I don't need to be entertained in the 90"
    timeouts.

    Maybe I'm getting old.

I had the family huddled around the ole philco Saturday night. I'm glad the university hasn't thought of pay to listen service yet. I'm sure that's on the radar as soon as audio technology improves.

If you live in Amarillo, the day of "pay to listen" is already here. $2.95 on Texassports and the streaming stops quite often. No radio or LHN broadcasts in the Panhandle as it has been abandoned by the UT Adm.

The issue as i see it is that Texas was coming back with an awfully experienced offense and NMSU is darn near the worst team in Div 1 football. Literally the worst.

Yet, the struggles were apparent everywhere. I would be shocked if we turn into some well oiled machine during the season. At least 4 losses.

You should save yourself the joy and agony of a debacle season and begin rooting for another team, now. Be kind to yourself.

Only one team went winless last year in FBS; Southern Miss. 5 others (Kansas, UMass, Akron, Colorado and Idaho went 1-11 like NMSU did.

NMSU last had a winning season in 2003. They've had 2 in the past 20 years and 3 in the past 35. They are among the worst in FBS and have been for a very long time.

The offense picked up and looked impressive late in the 2nd quarter through the end of the game. Against NMSU.

    As for this...

    Macanudo,

Agree, there is no reason to get excited about a win over the likes of NMSU. Pleased with the 2nd half offense. Not too pleased with a defense (yes, I know it only allowed 7 points) that allowed 350+ yards to a truly suckage team.

What will the defense allow to ou, osu, or even ttu. Our D coordinator still is struggling with getting guys in position and poor tackling, whiffs by safeties and corners. It simply must improve to hold strong teams to a number our offense can beat.

Well, only since we're calling him out, Taps may reply, but it will be a condescending, sarcastic, lame reply.
He will wait a while, but when he replies it will be lame. And he will be so tickled with himself, he'll probably add a few of these: [IMG]

did you notice that after Echols roughed the punter giving BYU an ultimate TD, He was back in to screw up a punt ny interfering with the BYU return man.and got another 15 harder. Is anybody accountable?, or did they just slap him on the *** and say good effort.

    wow.

guys like Taps can continue pretending they have the moral superiority & continue to make excuses ... but some of us remember when winning championships was the only goal ... not trying to one-up last years "side-show-bob" performances.

I'd settle for the goal to be winning a football game we should win ... with the 2nd/3rd squad getting more than kneel-down play.

BYU certainly wasn't as weak as NMSt ... but it's hardly OWho ... even in their own current state of relative weakness.

The O hasn't been consistently good since Colt left. I don't know why we haven't recovered from the Gilbert experiment by now ... but clearly we haven't. The backfield UT has is simply second to none. Rattle 'em off ... ALL starters at contending squads.

Ballyhoo the curmudgeon if it makes you feel superior ... but this level of mediocrity is vectored to surpass even that of the post-Earl Fred Akers era. (I sense I must qualify that ... because, like Gunsmoke & the '94 Cowboys ... I coulda coached the 77' Horns to a championship)

commercialization is tolerable under a winning program (& for Texas, that means winning CHAMPIONSHIPS, NOT beating NMSt, now coast) ... for these performances to date this season ... keep poking the bear with "win this" "win that" ... delay the game ... even with a proper, but ill=timed tribute.

Carry on, apologists ... & hold-fast to that delusion you're a better fan.
