Tex 31 - 6 I want a stellar defensive ball-control effort. Tex rushing over 250 yards, 20-25 first downs, 75% 3rd down conversions. 100+ QB rating. One blocked kick. One defensive score. Win turnover margin. Few penalties. Lunch pail blue collar workman effort 60 minutes.
Horns 34 BYU 31 Diaz needs to prove it to me when the Horns play a real team. If BYU is held to 7 like NMSU then some trust will be gained.
Definite throwdown with both sides landing heavy blows. Until Phillips and Thompson take a seat at safety or improve an ounce in tackling and coverage over 2012, points will be readily available. Not to mention I'm not close to sold the d-line can show well against much better talent than the guys last week who pushed them around some. The defense still has big questions to answer against a strong offensive attack. I'm ok with the offense as to me the slow start was largely due to being opening game and new offensive methods/schemes to get used to in live action. We left points on the board early in the 1st half no doubt. A little seasoning will wipe that out for the most part. TEXAS 37, BYU 31 Should be very close until the 4th qtr when Texas realizes they are in deep, puts their foot down, and takes and holds the lead. I'll be honest, I'm siding with Mack's philosophy in this one...just leave town with a WIN. The rest we can sort out during the following week.
I just watched the BYU - Virginia game replay on the Longhorn Network. I know it rained, but it was done by the 4th quarter. Neither of these teams look good offensively. Texas - 56 Bringham Young - 21
23-17 Texas. We are playing the school which featured the #2 defense in the nation last year, and many players are well over average college age due to spending time in their farm system, er, missionary program. Not an easy game.
