The Link The Gators gave up 429 yards, every single one of them on the ground. Ga. Southern attempted 3 passes with no completions. I'm sure this happened back in the leather helmet days, but I can't remember seeing it in my lifetime. Anybody know when the last one was?
At the high school level, Lewisville hung 58 and had over 500yds on offense vs Judson in the '96 state championship game, and I don't recall them even throwing the ball.
UT didn't complete a pass against SMU (0 for 6 I believe) in '72 and won 17-9. I don't recall any other game where they didn't complete at least 1.
Several teams have done it, but Navy has on more than one occasion. Most recently against Wake Forest in 2009 when they didn't attempt a pass in the game.
I know Georgia Southern runs a triple option offense. I wonder if it is the wishbone, flexbone, or some variant. If you are unprepared for a triple option team it will bite you in the butt. Georgia Tech beat Syracuse 56-0 this year and the Syracuse coach made a comment about never having seen that offense before. Also interesting, Georgia Southern only made half of their extra points and Georgia Southern turned the ball over twice. Florida had no turnovers.
With regard to our 1972 team, we completed one touchdown pass that ENTIRE season, (on a cold, wet Thanksgiving night beat down of the ags). That team finished10-1, SWC Champs and exposed another Bear Bryant team in the Cotton Bowl (when Alan Lowry didn't step out of bounds). Finished #3 in the final polls.
Having the heat turned up after losing to Georgia Southern and then having to face FSU. lol The next boom you hear may be Muschamp's head coaching career imploding.
For all the Mack Brown haters please understand what a bullet we dodged in Muschamp. And there are many other duds in disguise out there. We can easily have a Lane Kiffin, Bo Pelini and Will Muschamp waltz through here before finding a good/great coach.
Either those two guys were blocking with their eyes closed or were practicing for their upcoming date on 'Dancing with the Stars'.
