    Good point Hornswagler.

Hu, I always enjoy your posts. Longwinded =), but always compelling.

One thing I think we can all agree on, is that even if Mack is gone, Chip Brown is more lucky and dumb, than good. I am sure his testicles will be in his throat until this is all over.

Mack wants to set records. And as Mandingo pointed out, he already has. The ONLY UT EVER to have 4 consecutive 4-loss seasons. But what the hell, we're Texas. [IMG]

ESPN should be really pissed too. They fronted UT all that cash to carry a national contender and draw large interest to the network. Instead they got a flaccid program that can't win their own damn conference in any of the 3 major sports. Most of the time we aren't even a contender to win the conference. What an f'n joke they've made our major sports programs into.

Macanudo, what I think he means is that Chip Brown and his "high level" sources did not respect the space needed for this change to occur.

    For all I Know,
-Mack is just being a contentious ********, (his lawyer is Joe Jamail after all ) and using any excuse he can to parlay this into more $$$. OR
    - I could also see the "leak" to Chip Brown being the first salvo in an ugly divorce, fired by the admin.

Either way, Chip Brown is being used as a tool.

He is already wrong, by telling this was said and done and would have been all played out by Thurs 12/12.

Doesn't need to tell you anything. Look in the trophy case. Ran the gauntlet and should have played for it in 08. Played for it all in 09 with what everyone knows was the best team.
Terrible luck and no more crystal balls.
Lost as many games in those years as Alabama in the last two years. Their losses were at the right time right teams the have the rings.
    Mack's teams tough luck.
What major programs are better than our résumé in the last 8 years? Last 5 years?
    List is pretty short dude.
That's the respect I feel he has earned.
Couple that with the graduation rate, and a program we can be proud of and I say give the man some room to negotiate and get the benefit of the doubt here.

There is a big difference between "a reporter doing his job, and asking the hard questions," and what Chip Brown does.
Chip Brown wants to be the story, and at the expense of finding the truth, and the ethics of journalism be damned.
He does this because he is selling his web service.
He tries to generate controversy to sell his product. He has no journalistic standards of finding or reporting the truth.
He figures he wins either way, if he get the story right his name is in the news, if he gets it wrong his name is in the news.
I guess I am the idoit, because I am talking about him, which is just what he wants.

Who's calling the shots here? Football coach pleading for his job or some managers who are trying to improve things? A coach who has long ago complained about "things said about him on the internet" and now a UT message board reporting things. Really? I wanted and believed that Mack would go gracefully. If he's just making a $ play, he seems to be going about it all wrong. What type of legacy does he want to leave behind? If he thinks he's going to improve the UT football program next year, he is delusional. And I cannot believe the Powers (!) to be believe that!!

    Well put Accurate.
Chip Brown is already dead wrong by telling us this was Mack's decision, and everything was going to be sewed shut by yesterday.

Even if Mack leaves ultimately, Chip has ZERO credibility. It will be more about him being lucky than good.

And of course, the only motive he had to break this "story" on Tuesday, (as opposed to waiting for the chips to fall) was to get his own sad-sack name out in front of it.

Pretty despicable. Most fans want Mack gone. But Chip Brown is not even a blip on our radar as far as allegience goes. I think we'd all have been happy to find out about this from this directly from Mack and the University whenever the time was right for them.

You guys bashing Chip are hilarious. Chip is a reporter, so duh he tries to get a scoop. Big deal. But I'd listen to him ANYDAY of the week than take your word for things. The POWERS that be are probably holding a grudge against him because he nailed them on the conference stuff and on DeLoss' retirement plans. It would be petty if ANY OF THIS had to do with making him look bad. If so then we're in more trouble than we thought.

I kind of understand the thinking. I was getting so tired of all the ******** "reporting" being done (by lots of people, not just one) that I was about ready for Mack to stay just to shut up all the idiocy.

Bystander, the issue with Chip Brown "scoops" is that they are not scoops at all. Its like he has a source or two, and takes everything they say at face value. Rushes it out there too soon as news because his name has to be in front of the story.

Then the story is off-base, and all he has done is make a mess of the timing, narrative, and made a joke of the program.

Well he gets his wish. Its all about Chip Brown today. I don't think this is exactly what he wanted though.

So let's summarize. Coach admits he was going to step down (he must have had a reason, no?) but his pride gets hurt so the hell with the program, it's all about me now! Is that correct?

"Brown was "enraged" when the news leaked to the media, and he decided to change course, according to the source."

Do you seriously believe that Mack was going to quit and got so angry he decided to stay? Please [IMG]

Well, yes, sort of. Mack was going to quit when it would "appear" HE was quitting and he wanted to pass the baton to younger blood, but changed course when it was going to "appear" that he was being pushed out and replaced by someone his own age who had an equally long and much more successful resume. Once Saban was off the table, he went back and did it. No doubt the leaks and media frenzy affected the timing.
