Baylor looked undisciplined and unprepared in this game.

What bothered me most though were briles comments at half. He indicated that they need to score more and referenced a missed field goal and then complained about the refs. The obvious glaring issue was the 28 pts his team had just given up and his mind wasn't even on the defense. That bothers me a lot. Is it a deep seeded issue of offense only or can he capitalize on the money he will have available to him and focus on getting a top flight dc and giving him the athletes needed to win?

I still think briles is the best bet. But I was bothered by some areas of what I saw tonight for sure.

Mack Brown went 2-0 against UCF and 1-0 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Briles was clapping because he was so close to setting a Fiesta Bowl record for the most penalties having 17 and needing 18. [IMG]

All O, no D. If that's what some people want, then hell, let's just hire the Pirate.

UCF does have one of the best coaches in country, in my opinion. O'Leary. He did some falsification of degrees in his resume and really paid for it - or he would be coaching Notre Dame for a while, and their history would be quite different. He is quite old now at 67, but he can still coach.

I am still not in favor of Briles. But then I never was [IMG] ...

People just don't understand when some of us say that it is not all just an offensive system - though the times have changed and it seems more and more difficult to be successful without an offensive identitity. There are other offensive-minded coaches out there. Morris for instance - who I understand is better than Briles.

Then the issue really is the defensive assistants you can get. Whether the coach has a resume of paying attention to it, and if has the ability to get a top assistant to work under him, should be key considerations. That doesn't mean that the HC needs to be a defensive guy. It is preferable to have an O guy whose offensive identity will stay on, even when assistant leave after successful seasons. But it needs to be a coach who equally stresses the defensive side. Not too difficult to figure it out from the resume of a guy. I don't think Briles' resume shows that. Looks like even his comments today showed that he has some Mackovic in him (the quintessential "I don't care for defense" guy).

I agree with all the poster that said Baylor looked un disciplined and unprepared for UCF.

Yes UCF did beat Louisville at their house. However, they had to come from behind in about 6 games other games in their conference and it took a miracle for them to beat Temple, yes Temple.

I want a coach that has Saban's take on the game. Defense and a strong running game based on overpowering your opponent in the trenches. Look at Saban's record. He is the best in the game. That was the theme of Daddy Darrell and he still would have more hardware than Mack even if Mach passed him for all time wins at Texas.

I do not want Briles for our next head coach. We need someone who can beat Stoops on a regular basis, and Briles is not that coach. Big Game Bob is still the best coach in the Big 12, not Briles.

We need someone that can win the big games, not just beat Texas! [IMG]

^^^^ Really? I don't remember that at all about Mack's UNC record. I don't know if we can find the stats for that though...

No to Briles. He's the second coming of Bill Yeoman, and defenses will adjust. They always do, and anyone who runs a UH scheme will not win for extended periods of time. Not my opinion, historical fact.

I'd say this game pretty well cemented my previous opinions of Briles-coached teams.

I thought Briles had a look of indifference almost like someone who had moved on to his next job. I'm not in favor or against Briles at UT, just my impression of his body language(except for yelling at the refs that his defensive backs weren't really holding the receivers despite the stretched jersey the refs were seeing).
