I don't know how closely you've been following the OU band director controversy, but a number of OU band members, parents, and alumni have been complaining that their halftime shows are too simplistic under their new director this year. This video has been making the rounds with some of my Longhorn Band friends recently: someone in the OU camp put together a side-by-side comparison of the two bands from the most recent Red River Rivalry game, and it is clear that the Longhorn Band has a more complex drill.
Interesting that the new band director has a master’s degree and a doctorate in percussion performance from Texas. That doesn't guarantee that he knows how to dance though.
I would like to see a comparison of the okie band in the past. maybe the new director had to dumb it down so they'd be able to perform the maneuvers and play at the same time
OU band director is a good guy. He was a TA with LHB when I was in the band and I can tell you that he takes his job at OU seriously. People are always slow to accept change. They'll get over it.
First thing he should change is having the drum major lead out their pre-game Cotton Bowl performance with a really bad Dick Van Dyke impression.
The pattern is that if you get your DMA from Texas you will be running another college's band program, even OUs.
