A good read from Chris Simms at FOX sports. The Link

Didn't know that Charlie had recruited Simms! Tells us how far back his coaching career goes...

Even though Bev won many titles including NC and she sent several to the Olympics women's tracj is usually not considered a major sport

Don't forget Rod Page, the UT womens basketball coach 1974-1976. Of course, those were the first years of UT WBB on a varsity sports level as opposed to a club level so it wasn't considered a major college sport at the time.

Fact check. Strong was at USC or nd when Simms was being recruited. Not at Florida.

I think he meant to say "major men's sport"

Women's track is not comparable. You might as well compare the intramural program. The dollars and the pressure is like comparing an atomic bomb to a firecracker. It is further evidence that some posters are trolls.

    Football revenue 2011-2012 $108 million
    Womens Track revenue 2011-2012 $345,000

    Not even close.

Simms says in the article it was Florida.

Always liked Chris Simms. A good guy who was under rough circumstances when he was at UT. Glad to see that he still thinks abt the program.

The was a time, not so long ago, when men's and women's track programs were considered major sports in this nation. When the Littlefield Texas relays brought large crowds and major newspaper publicity.

Also, just looking at revenue is a poor comparison. Baseball is still considered a major sport (football, basketball, baseball), yet revenues for baseball at the vast majority of schools are very similar to track programs.

Not that I personally consider track as a major sport, but the case can easily be made for such.

Guess that makes me a troll.

Troll. Actually, it's not this that makes you a troll. Too easy. Does this get me excluded from Dinner or Poker Club?

In my view, the major sports are football, baseball, men's basketball and women's basketball.

I would add volleyball and track and field to that list.

And golf. if we won a national championship in it, it has to be a major sport!

I'm pretty sure every sport except Football and Men's Basketball are in the red.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world.

Texas doesn't even have an NCAA men's soccer team.

That sounds great and all Chris, but you lost me when you said it's an anomaly Texas can't get a top-end 5-star RB to come there. Jonathon Gray was #1 ranked RB in the nation coming out of HS in 2012. Malcolm Brown was the #1 RB in the nation the year before. Both 5-stars. So we didn't recruit the position hard in 2013 due to numbers. What the hell is he talking about? He didn't say we don't have a top-end RB, he said we can't 'get' one. And specifically mentioned 5-star.

As for inability to land a good QB over last 6 years...Connor Wood in 2010 was ranked #3 in nation. Even GG was ranked #1 in nation when he came. It's not we haven't snagged guys with high rating and potential after GG, it's the coaching did nothing with them and they left or rotted behind McFly.

Let's be fair Chris, we got the best RB's available lately and many elite schools offered a few of the QB's we signed in last 4-5 years. Coaching wasted them. A tough, accountable coach like strong wouldn't have, which is why the excitement should be high in Austin now.

From the Simms article: "He can balance the political and media pressures at Texas and is a strong personality, and great leader, who knows how to run a program."

If Chris is going to write articles, he needs to master the use of commas. It is nice that he thinks highly of Coach Strong.
