The Nuge not good for Abbott

I read about this earlier today, and I think Greg Abbott is taking a gamble campaigning with Ted Nugent to reinforce his pro-gun stance. This is not about politics. I mostly agree with Nugent's politics, especially on gun rights, and I admire his patriotism.

However, Abbott has this election in the bag. Davis' only shot is to get women pissed off at him - recreate Richards v. Williams (1990). Even that is an extremely narrow shot. I know she's trying to mitigate the gun issue by coming out in favor of open carry, but it's weak. Her marks with the NRA are garbage, and she's never been particularly supportive of gun rights. She isn't fooling anybody, so Abbott doesn't need to make a big effort to keep her from moving to his right on gun issues. Hell, she's an urban Democrat. Very few people who vote on gun rights will even listen to her for that reason alone.

So why bring in Nugent? He's an asset on guns, but he's a potential liability with the ladies. The dude admits that he's banged a bunch of underage girls and doesn't seem particularly sorry about it. In addition, the lyrics to his music (which he still performs) are pretty filthy. He's not much better than the rap artists Obama has gotten ripped for inviting to the White House. Finally, he's a loose cannon - says inflammatory things that Abbott isn't going to want to associated with.

The bottom line is that urban and suburban women (the keys to a Davis victory, however remote) aren't going to dig "Uncle Ted," and by associating with him, Abbott is giving Davis an opening. Yes, he brings credibility on guns, but Abbott already has that and doesn't need Nugent's help. I'm not saying Davis will be able to make a big enough issue of Nugent to lure women away from Abbott, but motivating women to ditch Abbott is her only shot. Why give her even a little bit of ammo when he gains so little from the association with Nugent? Makes no sense to me.

As a political move, it doesn't make sense to me. If he was planning on a tough primary I could see bringing Ted on to keep some of the far right on board. But he should have an easy primary and a pretty easy path to victory in the general. The only way he doesn beat davis is with a major blunder. So you bring on a guy that is the king of major blunders? Learn when to play it safe, spout the party line, and win by double digits.

As I try to make sense of the move, is is possible that he thinks dems will turn out large and pubs will sit at home unless he motivates them?

I give Ted Nugent high marks on the courage to say what he thinks, Problem is that when he talks politics he's a dumb ***. If you like strident ********, you gotta love him. As a moderate I find him offensive and unpersuasive.

I completely agree. Davis has to love the move. I just dont understand what Abbott sees as the potential reward. Maybe he is trying to prove that he can win easily even with uncle ted on board.

maybe Abbott is as retarded as Nugent but is less brazen?

Maybe he has grown weary of carrying the water for the pollution industry with its faith based environmental policies and has decided that if he must be a prostitute he will cater to the rougher trade?

The only thing that can lose this for Abbott is to pull an asinine move like Claytie Williams back in the day. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

The more I think about this, the more stupid it becomes. You allow dems to attack all the crazy stuff Ted has said and you are immediately associated with it.

In addition to recently calling certain female politicians "dirty *****" and "fat pig" there is the famous Obama quote: "I have obviously failed to galvanize and prod, if not shame enough Americans to be ever vigilant not to let a Chicago communist-raised, communist-educated, communist-nurtured subhuman mongrel like the ACORN community organizer gangster Barack Hussein Obama to weasel his way into the top office of authority in the United States of America."

Why does Abbott want to have to answer for this stuff?

Maybe a poster here is not sensitive to morally and politically incorrect medical terms?

This may come from a liberal website, but this is a real song. Seriously, Nugent is impossible to defend. The guy is a sicko. Abbott may as well play the David Allan Coe Underground album at a campaign event. I'm sure Coe is pro-gun.

Well I don’t care if you’re just thirteen
You look too good to be true
I just know that you’re probably clean
There’s one lil’ thing I got to do to you

That's pretty damn bad. Although both sides are being hypocritical about this. Obama has rappers at the White House and the right gets pissed. Abbott get nugent and the left goes wild. It's hard for me to get worked up about this stuff, its more about the lack of judgement and Abbott being my new boss.

This seems to be a DNC generated effort to get Davis some momentum. I have Ted Nugent's greatest hits on my iPod and I have never heard of that song. That song was released 33 years ago - not sure that correlates to an indictment of Greg Abbott ability to be governor.

Nugent's live album "Intensities in 10 Cities" (1981).

Doesn't matter how old or popular it is, he brags abt popping underage cherries. Some people call that child molestation, some call it pedophilia, the law calls it rape.

Abbott isnt responsible for what Nugent says, but his staff did a piss-poor job of vetting Nugent for the appearances, and Abbott is responsible for hiring such an inept staff.

Nugent was and remains stupid. Abbot's people should have known better
but it is much ado about nothing.
These are not abbot's views anymore than BO had the same views as that rapper he used our taxpayer money to bring to the WH, a rapper whose rap called for the death of a President and celebrated in verse a convicted cop killer.

    This is just as silly

6721 did a much better job of articulating what I was trying to say. Much to do about nothing. When Ted runs for office, tell me what he did 33 years ago. Otherwise, seems irrelevant to the Abbott-Davis campaign.

Its not about Nugent. Its about the decision making of a person that would bring him on when campaigning for the highest office in Texas.

Since you posted my link from 3 years ago did you bother to read the link?
I am flattered you'd go to so much trouble to prove my point.
having an idiot campaign with you while incredibly stupid is not the same as having vile hate poetry read at our White House

and btw since you had enough time to research my posts from 3 years ago I wonder if you have had tome to consider whether you honestly believe deputy volunteer registrars in Texas can ignore rules registrars have to abide?
I'd really like to see your opinion on that and I notice you didn't respond.
You can either respond in here or go back to the thread where you posted.

There are many things that I would want to distance myself from if I were a politician. Obviously pedophilia is high on the list but it certainly isnt the end of the list. I wouldn't associate myself with people that think highly of cop killers either. This has become the same tired political debate where its ok when my guy does it but not yours.
