Agree with Bill on getting adequate parking, especially if we are going to add more attendance.
I would like to see the *** neighborhood east of the Disch
flattened into a huge tailgate/parking area leaving the mature trees for shade and possibly have trams that run to the stadium.

UT already tried to take some of that developing property that is now out of reach of many to buy and got their *** handed to them. They tried Imminent Domain and failed. They should just level the cemetery and build on that. Talk about prime land with a great view and access. Damn the outdated idiotic physical mourning ritual, let's build for the true religion...The Foozball!

    Or not.

Leveling the Mausoleum, aka Erwin Center, and building practice facilities there as well as part of where they are now makes sense. Relocate Erwin Center elsewhere, maybe Mueller Development area, and have practice areas together.

This adds lots of parking which could be used by students and faculty (and special events), room for offices for the AD and programs and perhaps widen some roads around there to get people in and out/around faster and safer.

I seem to remember the exterior of the drum being expensive marble imported from Italy.
I cannot imagine tearing the drum down. What a waste of money and green space for tailgating.
The Medical School does not need to be built next to campus.
    What a waste of money.
    Powers needs to go.

I'm not an architecture expert but it sure seems there is room to enclose the SEZ without moving the Moncrief-Neuhaus Center.

Expansion to the south of DKR is history.

The new Medical School will take everything from the pink lots to the hospital. Most of the ground parking by Irwin center will be gone this year.

Parking will be much worse and more expensive for a long time before DKR and the SEZ ever starts any expansion.

Vol Horn, my father mentioned to me last week a conversation he had with DeLoss when he was in the bidding for general contracting for NEZ. He thinks he remembers a goal of 112,000-114,000 if the SEZ were to be finished out to mirror the North end. And, there was speculation then that it would include demolishing and building new facilities into NEZ and attached to it to replace Moncrief.

As for what impact the pending Medical School will have on any potential renovation, I have no idea.

My recollection is that the blanket tax was very low (I believe it was $20 or so per YEAR) during the 70's when I was a student and that allowed a student free admission to ANY sporting event at home. I picked up many home football tickets without ever being refused or being in a drawing. I don't remember anyone I knew ever having a problem getting a home game ticket. There was definitely a draw for away games as the numbers were limited. Mainly it was first come, first served with the limited supply for away games. I was able to get any away game ticket that I wanted to attend including OU ($10 IIRC) and bowls.

My Longhorn nieces told me that home football tickets were not available for all students that paid for the Longhorn All-Sports Package during their time at UT. The All-Sports Package is still a great deal at $80 per year for one ticket to any home game or event if students are sure to get a ticket. I admit that I thought the package fee was higher and that home football tickets were just discounted, not free.

I feel there should not be any question of getting that ticket free of charge for UT students that get the All Sports Package. Students should get priority!

Stat, I know why! Because it would have made too much sense, cost less and be more practical. That's why. Why do the sensible thing when later you can regret it?!

What an incredible waste of money to tear down the Erwin Center.

Actually, if the first 10 rows were reserved for students Erwin Center would be pretty awesome. I am sure the people that pay for and do not attend the games would be just as status satisfied with row 11 and up." Look at my seats, I am on row 11, you know what that cost me?"
There is no reason to cram the Medical Center next to campus, wasting millions of dollars replacing the Erwin Center and building over green spaces and parking lots.

Here is an idea that might save a few hundred million, build the medical school where you are planning to build the Erwin Center replacement and additional parking garages.

I think the impetus for the med school's location has more to do with its proximity to Brackenridge Hospital.

The blanket tax my senior year, '73, was around $16.00 and it included events like symphony and opera as well as all sporting events. Oh for the good old days!
