    LC,

I read that story and was thinking the exact same thing.

I think BYU would be a good addition. There is that Sunday scheduling problem.

Not to go all "west mall", plus I'm not one to bash other religions (Lord knows no one gets it like mine), but I don't understand the Sunday thing for them.

Don't they believe Jesus was just another dude, basically? Or do I have that all wrong? If so, why is Sunday a deal breaker?
Wouldn’t the Sabbath (Saturday) make more sense for them?

    Please educate me.

They would be a good addition only if they were flexible on Sunday when necessary. If not they will probably never be in one of the big conferences.

Curious.. how did Steve Young and Ty Ditmer play on Sundays?!!

Also, as to days off, my daughter never gave us a weekend off this spring (10th grader at LASA, Austin).... including Easter Weekend. One of her classes did a review every Sunday afternoon, then Sat. Easter Weekend, then again Memorial Day weekend. It didn't even stop after school was out. She took a biology SAT test last Sat at Anderson High. Today she's in a Research Methods class at UT. Will stay late for an Intern neuro-something that will continue for the summer. Her mom doesn't trust the bus, so I'm round-tripping it twice a day the rest of the summer... and I drive carpool in the fall. All I ask is geez... some weekend off... some days... some sense of just having a freaking life.

If an institution were to say.. okay, we only participate in activities six days a week, one day off. I'm actually for that, just on a common sense, good sense, basis of .... just have a life for gosh sakes. Give it a break. Otherwise... oh never mind.

So much for balance. Our household cannot spell that word anymore.

I think the Big 12 should look east first as in Florida State and Clemson, but my next choice would be BYU.

84 is on the money. Florida St. and/or Clemson would be the best direction to look next. Bottom line is if we add anyone they should be higher level programs with well respected athletics. BYU is a little above mid range. I'd say around the Texas Tech mark of our conference. Adding them doesn't raise our conference in comparison to others and give us anymore prestige. Just includes another mildly competitive team in the middle. Yes I know they beat us last year, just like we lose to Texas Tech now and again too. They're still a mid-range addition and even worse in basketball and baseball. Adding Clemson and FSU instead would raise us to the highest level. Matching or exceeding the Southleast Conference.

Personally, I wouldn't mind, but the Big 12 is very happy with the current financial contract, and there is zero chance of any expansion for the foreseeable future. The number of teams is perfect, the money huge and growing...all the teams like it the way it is.

The way it plays out now having the 9 game round robin schedule helps the BigXII

Baring the big conferences breaking away, the choice should be Hawaii since their games do not count in the number of games played. That way everyone in the Big XII would still play a round robin schedule plus being able to recruit using at least two trips during the four years to Hawaii. [IMG]

If the big conferences break away (or go into a division by themselves) everything should be thrown open with 64 teams being divided into 8 8 team conferences (sorry for the math inclusion but my gift to the aggy trolls) determined by location only. The Big XII would include the Oklahoma schools, sand aggy, TCU, Texas, Baylor and (the only downside) either the pig people or aggy. The Kansas and Iowa schools, Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and Illinois would be another conference. Texas gets to keep the LHN in exchange for taking one for the division by agreeing to take back aggy (yes an irrevalent inclusion), but everyone else splits their Tier 3 TV rights between ESPN and Fox. The issue would be the domers, but it is time they are told to join or get left out.

Clemson or FSU to the B12 is reminiscent of Miami moving the Marlins to San Antonio. It isn't happening. Get over it, the B12 is simply a bargaining chip for both schools.

    Lc,

I am not a Mormon and I could have many of these facts wrong so if I do I don't do it to offend.

Mormons believe that Jesus is the son of god, died for sins and all that stuff. They believe he visited what is now new York in the 3 days that he was dead and that he left information that was later discovered by Joseph smith.

They celebrate easter and they observe Sunday as a holy day.

You asked so I just threw out what I think I know to summarize the answer to what you were asking.

Yea, they have some crazy ideas. The next thing you know, they'll say a bush lit itself on fire, didn't burn, and told a guy to go by himself to the most powerful nation in the world and free a bunch of slaves.....

    Exodus 3
    New International Version (NIV)
    Moses and the Burning Bush

3 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”

4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”

And Moses said, “Here I am.”

5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father,[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

7 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 9 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

I thought BYU had pretty much spurned the idea of going B12 due to their own TV network and Sunday playing.

BYU to the Big 12 is great. I don't see why the Sunday problem could not be solved.
While in Provo last year for that terrible game, many of the BYU folks we talked to mentioned the conference. No doubt it is something they are thinking about.
Steal Arkansas from the SEC for the 12th team and we are set.
